Choosing Classes, need advice

Alright so here is another post on choosing classes.

I’m an incoming freshman, premed, currently biochem, but I’m planning on switching to Biology/MCDB/psychobio

Here is a list of classes that I could possibly take during Fall '07:

Life Science 1 or 2

I’ve heard from a friend, and saw on CC somewhere that its better to do LS 2, 3, 4, THEN take LS1. Does anyone agree with this? Why?

Chem14a

Not much to say here.

math3a

How hard is it to pass the math placement exam to take math3a; I got a 4 in Calc AB AP, but a 1 in Calc BC AP? [I blame senioritis]

Fiat Lux med

Does anyone have any input on this class? Good/bad experiences?

Eng Comp 3

I passed the AWPE, so does this mean the next eng course I take is this one?
I want to take Eng comp 3 my first quarter because I believe that improving my reading and writing skills would help out in all areas of college related stuff, except maybe partying.

I want to take the math3a + LS + eng comp 3 + fiat lux, but do you guys recommend another combination of courses for my 1st quarter? Does anyone think that is too much?? I think thats about 15 credits. Also, and recommendations on teachers for each of those course?

Thanks in advance for your time =D

last year when i was a freshman for fall i took ls1, english comp 3, and an honors class. ls1 is really easy with the hespenheide and its a nice transition to college cuz u just have to memorize his notes and it is all MC tests. english comp 3 is also good for first quarter if u get the right teacher. just look some up on bruinwalk. i would wait on 14A until winter when Scerri teaches it because he is pretty easy and a good teacher. getting placed into math 3a is pretty easy if you got a 4 on the AB calc. from what i remember there is no BC stuff on it.

you need to take a chem class before you enroll in LS 2

math placement test is pretty chill
online practice test

I heard scerri was much easier than lavelle

Life Science 1 or 2
LS 1 is fine!

Chem14a

math3a
Not very hard! It's just some trig stuff. No calculus at all... (Placement Test)

Fiat Lux Med
Fiat luxes are generally not difficult. They're one-unit Pass/No Pass classes.

Eng Comp 3
Yeah go ahead and take this fall quarter. Although you won't jump into Writing II classes (probably) immediately, it gives you a way to iron out any of your English skills. That and generally North Campus classes (Writing labeled or not) will most likely require at least one 5-7 page paper.

You schedule Math/LS/Eng/Fiat Lux sounds normal and fine.

Alright here is my plan right now:

LS1 Hespenheide

math3a Popa

eng comp 3 Steinberg/Fallows/Gilmore ... < in that order of choice.

fiat lux med Melamed or Maish??? these prof's aren't on bruinwalk yet. Does anyone know if one is superior to the other?

So yea, I think I am going to go with these professors unless any of you guys would recommend otherwise. How hard would it be for me to actually get these classes when I register? I am attention orientation session 101, the first one, if that helps at all.

Oh yea also, what would you guys recommend for scheduling the timing of classes, some people say to try to get them back to back, some say to leave an hour or two between if possible. What do you all think about that? I am leaning more towards leaving time in between each course so that I can study.

Thanks in advance.

melamed and maish are actual doctors, so they wouldnt be up on bruinwalk. i took dr. melamed's fiat lux fall quarter and it was okay and i met dr. maish while i was volunteering at the medical center here. she is extremely nice. i'd recommend her over melamed, but its up to you.

Fallows>Steinberg! You're lucky you got orientation 101... top pick in all the classes. You'll definitely get eng comp then (most likely with the prof of your choice too), cuz that one's hard to get in if you're in a later session.

As for me, I prefer back to back classes. I like to start early in the day and finish it before lunch time. :) That way you get the whole afternoon free to do whatever you want. If you're the type that procrastinates hw and studying until the day it's due though, then it's a better idea to leave an hour or two free before that particular class so you can use it to study/do hw. When I had time between classes, I used it mostly to nap.

my econ class is at 8:00am.
would it then be better to have all the rest of my classes earlier? (math 32a & chem 20a). the teachers i want have these classes later in the day. i should go with the better teachers right?-even though my day will be super long?

No for the obvious reasons that it will not help, so its better to take the easiest ls which would be 1 your very first quarter since youre transitioning into college so it would help to take an easier load at first so you have time to get used to things

is it possible to walk from bunche hall to schoenberg music in 10 minutes?

yes, they're near each other.

Both sections of LS1 are full now, I'd advise you look for an alternative.

Okay cool, I am now back from orientation session 101 and here are my classes:

Chem14a Lavelle
Math3a Popa
Eng Comp 3 Fallows
Fiat Lux Med Melamed

@ Asura: yea LS1 is now closed, but at the time I was registering, LS1 was still opened, however my OC told me not to take it 1st quarter, as did a lot of the LS advisors at the workshops and other premed students. But most of you dont even have to worry about that now, since the class is pretty much closed.

guys, is it possible to walk from WGYOUNG to Pub Aff building in 10 minutes? seems kinda far from the map...:x

I'm jealous mrMOO... you got fallows =[
I SHOULD HAVE DONE 101!!!
