I was told that I should most likely look up the professor before taking a class. So I'm wondering if during the orientation, would there be time to go online and research the professors after I know which classes I want to take? Seeing as I have no idea what classes I'm suppose to take right now.

I would go on the website where you can look up professors on line and I would make some quick notes on the ones you might prefer.

Thing is, I don’t know what classes I’d have to take yet! So I have no idea what type of professor to look for. That’s why I’m asking if there’s time to research the professors during the orientation, before the class registering rush.

you should really figure out what classes you want. orientation won’t help you out all that much in choosing classes, especially ge’s. figure out what classes you want to take now. what’s your major?

Actuarial Science…
How can I find out what classes I need to take and what are available for the GE? Esp the course’s name.

i think this should be for you
[UCSB Statistics](http://www.pstat.ucsb.edu/instruction/actuary/schedule.html)

in addition to those yuo have to find your own time for ge’s. i don’t know what exactly the college of letters and science require for their ge’s but this has a list of ge’s that are accepted for engineers.
http://engineering.ucsb.edu/current_undergraduates/pdf/GEAR-11-12.pdf

don’t worry about it too much. just make sure to sign up quickly for your classes and see what fits into your schedule. you should be fine for orientation, many people do not know what to take. your advisor will tell you what you must take however your ge’s and extra classes will be all up to you. just look on gold and see what can fit into your schedule

As you’re not in the college of engineering, the requirements for GEs are rather different. Try this link instead:

[UC Santa Barbara General Catalog - General Education Requirements](UC Santa Barbara General Catalog - General Education Requirements)

and pick the appropriate bachelor’s degree.

Strange thing is you wont actually know what a prof is like until you actually see him or her. RMP will clue you in to some class policies (like number of tests and stuff), but I never really found it useful beyond that. A review might say “X prof is really boring” but you might find his stuff engaging, for example.
