so this is my school I got accepted into for fall 2016.
I attended a private catholic school 6-11 (<600) and now I’m at the best public 7-12 school in my town which much larger (<3000) and I an easy time adapting which makes me less nervous for college but I’m having a tough time making a decision. I live in Fresno, CA and Fresno state is known for having a very strong pre-physical therapy program. For the two UCs, I got accepted for dance because I danced competitively for 11 years and have been dancing since age 3. I’ve decided (as of now, the end of my senior year) that I want to be a physical therapist. The issue is, it’s hard to pass up on a UC school but I’m not even sure they have a pre-pt major. I’ve heard UCI has an exercise science major but I don’t know if that is transferable. the worst part of all this is in the back of my mind im thinking “wow what happens if by the end of my first year in college I totally change my mind and I had chose to stay in town because I thought I wanted to be a physical therapist?” So any opinions or information would be much appreciated!

There is no major called “Pre-Physical Therapy” even at the SDSU or CSU Fresno. SDSU’s program is Kinesiology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy. You are not required to select a particular major in order to be eligible for admission to a PT program. The most common undergraduate majors among PT students include exercise science, biology, kinesiology, and psychology.
If you are interested in attending a UC, then you need to find out how easy it would be for you to change your Dance major to a major that fulfill the PT school requirements.
Part of growing up and going to college is making decisions. Do not try and second guess yourself, but select a school that will allow you to have many options when it comes to your major, in case you change your mind later on. Does SDSU and Fresno state offer a Dance major? If so, then maybe one of these 2 schools would be a better choice and you could possibly pursue a Dance minor along with your Kinesiology major???
You don’t need a pre-PT major. You do need to cover certain subjects, which you can get at most schools… like 1st year chemistry, physics, anatomy, and physiology. You can do those while majoring in something else (dance?)… but check the grad school program requirements.
yeah what I meant as far as a pre-physical therapy major is whatever major essentially leads into a graduate physical therapy program! but as far as the UCs, I know a ton of dancers who double major and do dance along with something else, which was my plan. if I went to Fresno state or SDSU , I’d do the dance team (cheering & comp), not the dance major. I think what I’m most conflicted on which would be most worth my while in regards to what I want to do after my first 4 years.
The most worthwhile college would be the one where you feel the most comfortable, a good selection of majors and is affordable. Happy students are successful students.
