Which is the best dorm for incoming freshman (girl)? I don't know if I have been admitted to the Honors Program YET. Which is closest to the Engineering dept. building?

Harrison on east campus.
closest to buzz buy ,laundry, and Britain
was remodeled two years ago so the dorms are much nicer
air conditioning works
west campus is better, but Harrison is the best if you are looking for a dorm on East campus.better then honors program dorms where the air conditioning is known for not working.

Which is the best on West campus? What is Britain?

Brittain is one of the dining halls at Georgia Tech. I ate there when I visited. It’s quite nice, and Hogwarts-y :)

Which engineering department? Each department usually has it’s own building (or two or three) and they’re scattered all over campus.

Chemical engineering

East campus
- better atmosphere/more activity
- closer to frats/sororities
- game days at Bobby Dodd Stadium
- farther (on average) to classes
- Freshmen hill

West campus
- slightly bigger dorms
- Woodruff dining hall (slightly better service/selection of food)
- closer to CRC
- closer to classes (except for Management)
+/- quieter/less activity (can be boring at times)

Not really to freshman classes. East is closer to Skiles (Math recitation and English), and East and West are about the same distance from CoC Annex (Chemistry), Cherry (Biology), and Howey (Physics and Math lectures). For a ChBE major both sides of campus are about as far.

It’s been a while since I’ve been in either dining hall, but in my day Woodruff was substantially better than Brittain.

One other thing to consider is that if you’re going to have a car on campus, freshman get the last pick of parking lots, so you’re sort of stuck with what’s left over. Those left over lots tend to be on East (specifically Tech Square, which always has room in the parking deck).

BTW, note that the new CULC building will be right be way closer to East side. A lot freshman labs, tutoring, and classes will be held in this new building.[Welcome to the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons (CULC) Website!](http://www.culc.gatech.edu/)

And BTW, the new 24 hour dining hall is going to be on East Campus.

Can you choose your roommate?

You and someone else can select each other as roommates on the housing application and live together. Or you can choose to be assigned. If you’re assigned to a roommate, it’s not like they mail you a list of 5 bios and you choose - you get who you get (though I believe they do ask some basic questions on the application to help match you like what time you go to bed). Sometimes that works out, sometimes it does not, but honestly the same thing can be said about choosing a person you know (there’s a big difference between being friends and being roommates).

If you don’t know anyone coming to Tech, you might want to try looking around on Facebook in the accepted students group. I know many students meet new friends on there.

Hey, i’m currently a freshman girl at tech. I’d definitely advise living on east campus. Unless you like a realllly quiet, calm atmosphere. West is really nice like that but freshman year is a time to have fun. And yeah the dorms on west are nicer but not THAT much nicer. And trust, me, there are a lot more normal people on east (no offense west). Also, I’d strongly suggest living in a co-ed dorm!! I’ve made so many good guy friends from living in the same building. We all hang out together in the lounge and they’re not creepy or anything. Oh and don’t really worry about being close to your major’s buildings cause you won’t have classes there freshman year anyway. You’ll likely have classes in Skiles, Howey, the instructional center, and the new building (the CULC). You can check out the campus map online and see the distance from one place to another. Good luck :)
