Hi there! Recently I'm writing my essays for the common app, and I have a few questions that I would like to ask you guys :)

1) For the common app, I need to write about an EC for the short answer, and an experience for the personal essay. Can they be the same? (if not, I would use playing piano for the short answer, and being a teacher assistant for the essay)

2) I'm planning to major in comp sci, so do I have to write about a comp sci related activity?

no not neccesarily… the best advice on writing essays is, this coming from the author of the fiske guide he gave a presentation in my school… “The best essays are the essays that are about nothing.” If ur writing about ur piano experience make sure u dont boast yourself and one more advice if u want to stand out, no offense to u i kno ur prolly a great writer, but just think about all those kids that are going to write about piano in America, ull be considered just one of them… good luck

here I see you again~!
I read this from a essay guides(whatever) “short answers and PS may contribute to one personal character so that both help to build an image of a vivid you” (something like this I cant remember)
piano and teacher assis. are ok if you can find that they tell AOs how you are like

and as regard to Q2, this is also a question I would like to ask~

thx for the opinion!
Ronakmp: For the piano part, what if I’m going to talk about piano as something that built my confidence over the years, because when I first came to the US, playing hit music in the piano by ear was the easiest way to make friends for me; and now because of my music ability, I have a chance to be a leader in my church and it has become a part of my life… is that good lol (hope it’s not confusing)
