Has anyone else tried to look at a potential schedule yet? According to the first semester schedule, I would have all of my classes on monday, wednesday, and thursday and nothing on tuesday and friday. I'm hoping this is not normal/the list is not fully updated? Has anyone else had this problem? I'm planning on majoring in physics and biology with a lot of AP credit by the way, so I'm looking at taking Calc 3, Chem 2, Inquiries in Cell and Molecular Bio, and Intro to Philosophy. I can't find Modern Physics, which is a problem for me since it is the next physics class I need to take and I don't know why it isn't on the schedule. Otherwise I would be taking Thermo+Stat Physics.

I would literally have class from 9-4 on MWR, only a lab on tuesday, and nothing on friday. Anyone else having this problem? What classes are all of you thinking of taking?

What information/source did you use to figure this out? I’m only asking so I can look for myself and then tell you if I am having the same problem.

This isn’t a totally uncommon schedule… but it’s not ideal.

Most classes are offered MWTh or TF. I’ve had your schedule before–having all my classes on MWTh and then I had a lab on tuesday and one on friday, and it sssucked. I prefer to do 3ish classes MWTh and then one TF class, because it spreads out my class time and my study time.

9-4 is a rough day. I know some non-science majors who do it because it gives them 3 day weekends, but I prefer to have off time every day so that I can get work done every day, and that seems to be the general trend among my science friends.

Sometimes you just get stuck in a bad schedule, especially as you’re older and need specific courses to graduate on time. As a freshman you shouldn’t really have to… play around with the course offerings a bit, sometimes you’ll find another course that will fill requirements and give you a nicer schedule.

It’s fine to be looking at the course schedules before you talk to your advisor, but don’t get too set on anything–your advisor will help you once it’s your “turn”, and usually will tell you the best classes for you to take the first semester. You also have all summer + the first few days of september to make adjustments.

Having TF off is a trick. It sounds good (three day weekend) but it’s actually really bad after the first week. Tuesday off tricks you into either skipping Mondays or not doing any work for Wednesday, and Friday off always made me and my friends slack on quizzes on Thursday because we were so close to the ‘weekend’. I had fridays off my first semester and both tuesday and friday off my second. I very much prefer what Emily described.

However also feel compelled to point out that depending on your job, it might be great to have TF off. For example if you co-op and they ask you to come back part-time, having TF off means you can work two normal work days a week. But don’t do this as a freshman! Just saying, for future reference.

Yeah I would much rather have my classes spread out throughout the week. And is the fall semester schedule going to be updated at all? I find it kind of strange that modern physics isn’t even there.

It’s not strange. Not all classes are offered every semester, especially if students traditionally take it in a certain semester. Modern is probably usually taken in the spring. But thermo and electronics are both offered in the fall, so you can take those.
