Choosing major affect admissions? (UCI)

Does anyone know if choosing a biology major in UCI lowers your chances of acceptance rather than undecided? Also, UCD and UCSD?

oh yea im a senior in high school applying to uc's right now.

help me please!

At all UC campuses, intended major is not considered for admissions to any of the Letters & Sciences (L&S) colleges. So. no, applying as a L&S Bio major will neither hurt nor help your admission chances. But, intended major is considered for the specialty schools/program, such as Engineering, Chemistry, Theater, etc.

but what if biology is in the school of biological sciences and not in letters and sciences. does that mean it is in a "specialty" school meaning harder admissions? if it is would u recommend selecting a major in the letters and sciences or going undeclared and switch later?

If you're worried don't say bio; after you get in you can always switch.

k ill just put undeclared. thnx for the help pple.

This is my exact question, but I don't know if it's actually true. I want to major in Bio Sciences but I want to know if it ACTUALLY lowers your chances. If it does then I'll go in as undeclared but that doesn't bother me anyway.

yea dude. whats some of your stats little duck. maybe they are comparable to mine?

Mine are crap.

UC GPA: 3.5
SAT: Dunno, I took it in Nov. so haven't got scores back yet. I'm expecting around 1820-1840.
SAT II's: Bio E-610. Math II: Retaking Dec.
Volunteer stuff at hospital
Clubs
All the usual crap

Just put Undeclared and the first day of orientation chg it to Bio.

I don't think it lowers your chances, because if you don't get into it you can get in undecided.

In the case that UCI is unable to accommodate all qualified applicants in their first-choice major, those students who indicate a valid alternate major may be offered admission in that major.

littleduck my gpa is about 3.7 and 1800's sat scores with barely any EC so we about the same if it gives you any more reassurance....:(

charlie do you know how easy it is to transfer to biology if you get in undeclared? it seems like the reason getting into bio is hard in the first place is the limited spots and if u get in undecided how are they gonna make room for you then?

mikemac you sure about that? the link you posted makes it seem like they MIGHT give you admission to another SPECIFIC major.

It's just what I read. If you want to confirm it, then send them an email or give them a call.
