choosing majors

I'm a newly admitted student for this fall as a cognitive science major but I was wondering how the program is at UCSD. On the UCSD website, it sounded very interesting but then again, I understand it could have been overpraised.. I'm a pre-med and I thought the way to increase the chance of getting into a medical school is to major what I want to learn about, but I'm not sure now. Also the fact that it's a new frontier science worries me greatly that I wouldn't have much chance for jobs (should I decide not to pursue medicine later on) after majoring it. Does anyone know what kind of materials I should expect from the department? I considered switching to more popular majors such as neurobiology, bioinformatics or human biology, but any advice? Thank you for reading.
