choosing majors

"If you are not admitted to either your first or second choice major, you will automatically be considered for the "Open" (Still Deciding) option"

So should anyone who has an interest in something, put down that interest as his/her major?

Can you choose a school but not a major?

Indicating your intended major is optional on your application. It is true that admission to some of the Schools at USC is much more difficult than to others. It's been reported that last year the admission rate to the School of Cinematic Arts was around 5% while admissions to the entire university, was around 21%. So go ahead and apply to the majors/schools you most desire, but even if you were not admitted to one of those majors, you could still be accepted by USC College of Liberal Arts, as an undecided major.

In answer to your question, I'd say you should apply to the school/major that you really want. In case you don't get it, you may still get into USC, so why not try?
