I'm currenly a freshman and I'll soon be deciding on what classes to take my sophmore year. I'm unsure on what classes to take...here is my freshman year schedule...

Health, Physical Fitness
Painting Studio, Art Studio
Honors Biochemistry
Honors English 1
Spanish 1
Geometry

These classes cover both semesters... This is what I would like to take my sophmore year...

AP Biology, or AP Physics 1
AP World History
Honors English 2
Alg. 2/Pre-Calculus
Spanish 2
AP Statistics

Would this transition be too difficult? I'm basically looking for schedule consideration...

I agree with skieurope; taking AP Physics 1, Alg.2/Pre-Calculus, and AP Stats all at the same time seems to be a lot, especially for a sophomore.

I took AP Stats last year, and the course assumes a very solid understanding of algebra as well as other topics such as probability. Much of it is very theoretical, and the AP exam tests that you understand concepts as compared to simply plugging in a formula like in geometry.

Since you took Honors Biochemistry, I think AP Biology would be a good follow up since you could probably retain some of the information.

I would recommend that you lighten up on the science/math a little (maybe AP Stats for junior/senior year?). 2 or 3 AP’s as a sophomore is respectably ambitious, but keep in mind that it’s far better to get 5’s than 4’s on AP exams. Good luck!

None of us knows what AP options are available for sophomores at your school. If you can enlighten us, we can give suggestions. Please note that sophomore is spelled with 3 o’s.

You might be wise sticking with 2 AP courses your sophomore year. The courses that have a higher percentage of sophomores taking the test, (e.g. World History and Human Geo) also have the smallest percentage of 5’s, possible suggesting that the vast majority of sophomores are not ready for college-level courses. Bio, which does not have a high percentage of sophs taking the test, also has a very low percentage of 5’s earned. You’d be better served nailing 2 tests than performing at an average level on 3.

I will most likely take just one AP history class and the classes that you guys have listed, I’m restricted from. There is a huge variety of classes at my school. For example, my school has a class which supports students who are currently pregnant. It may help noting that I’m not very good at science, because I’m too busy to cover the material, although I’m great at writing and somewhat good with math.

Maybe I can take an easy AP science class, such as environmental or biology, considering that I’m currently taking honors biochemistry. Then by taking a much easier science class I can focus on my strong suit, which is English.

AP Enviro is harder than people give it credit for; stick with two (AP Bio and APWH) for now and focus on ECs. It’s high school, it goes by fast; enjoy it while you can.

However, if AP English Language & Comp is an option for sophomores at you school (which it’s not at most places) that might be worth looking into over AP Bio, as English is your “strong suit” while science isn’t. Otherwise, AP Bio and World History are probably safe-ish choices.

So, I think I’ll take AP Bio and APWH, but what would be a good third AP class? Or should I just take two? Also, what science class could I take as a junior or senior?

Save AP Physics for junior year and Chem or ES (depending on offerings) for senior year. I think sticking with two’s good for now, especially if they’re the first AP classes you’re able to take.

I would suggest AP Bio instead of Physics- im in AP Physics I now as a junior, and it’s definitely not too easy. Although you could probably handle it with a good teacher, I think bio would fit better in your schedule. As far as Stats/World, my sophomore year I took AP Stats and AP world. First off, stats is typically a senior class, so it isn’t a cakewalk. However if you have the determination it can be fairly easy. I made a 5 on the stats exam and a 3 on the world exam, something no one at my school really expected, considering World is supposed to be the “easy sophomore AP class” at my school. But Reguardless, this is all your judgement at this point. People on this thread told me I would fail AP Stats and I didnt. So honestly it’s just your choice- you know your strengths. I don’t know if I would suggest all 3 together simply because I don’t know the workload of biology- that’s something you should ask the bio teacher at your school.
Best of luck!
