Hi, I am an international student from Asia who was recently admitted to both Duke and NYU Stern.

My career goal, like many others these days, is to work for a BB Ibanking firm or a Wall street hedge fund.

Now I do know that Duke has a stronger name recognition. I know that it will provide me with a more solid college experience, and more or less an equal opportunity to be hired in those firms mentioned. However, because of NYU's prime location and practical financial education that is offered, I have pretty much set my mind on choosing NYU Stern over Duke.

I visited NYU board to hear what you guys have to say.. I have looked at posts made in the past, including posts from people who chose Duke over Stern and vice versa.

It is really a very tough decision, and although I'm more attracted to NYU at this point, I wanted to know if anyone with Wall street experience can offer me another insight. (Any personal anecdotes would be great!)

Any inputs will be appreciated, thanks!

Well, I'm going to NYU in the fall so I can't say from experience, but I'll give you my two cents for what it's worth. I think if you want to end up in a Wall Street firm, going to Stern can open so many doors. The potential jackpot is all there, but it is required that you make the effort. I really think college is what you make of it, so if you go to Stern, just sit there expecting a great job to come along, you might as well go to Duke and work your ass off getting way better results.

Then again, I could be totally wrong. It would be nice if any current Stern students could help you out here. :)

Nyunyunyunyunyunyu

You really won't go wrong in either case. Both are top notch.

But the schools are very different. Duke has a traditional campus in a mid/small city; NYU has no campus per se in one of the world's largest cities.

On a side note, if Chinese food is important, then NYU for sure - it is a couple of blocks from China town. I doubt you'll find any decent Chinese food in Durham...

yea, duke is pretty much in the middle of nowhere (no it is not IN a town, it's about 15 minutes outside of it), and nyu doesn't have a campus and is in the middle of america's largest city.

So you pretty much have a lifestyle choice of two polar opposites.

flip a coin?
