Choosing One of Two Summer Jobs (HELP)

I am choosing between two summer jobs, and I really need some advice...

Job #1: I would make minimum wage, but I'd be working really close to my house and it's 10am-6pm (GREAT hours) and the people are really nice and I would be working with kids... I want to be a teacher, so the experience would be nice. I'd also have a free summer pass to the rec center- so unlimited swimming! There would also be a very high chance of them rehiring me from now until whenever I decided to stop working there.

Job #2: The second job is far away (gas money), the company is NOT nice (for example, I would be unable to take a couple days off to get my wisdom teeth removed because they would fire me), and the work would be incredibly tedious (it's in a factory). The hours are slightly more annoying 11pm-7am... You'd wonder why I'd want this job but I'd be making significantly more money (over 12$/hr on weekdays, over 18 on weekends if I chose or was forced to work overtime). They would also rehire me unless I did something to get fired (which is pretty easy because they do NOT treat their temps well). ...Oh, and cheap cookies (don't ask, haha)! But my dad works there so if I really wanted the cookies I could get them from him...

I'm not sure how big of a priority I should make the money... I don't have much to pay towards my tuition (my work study woulld take care of most of it), but I would like to buy myself a laptop... GAH.

It's just that I would be MISERABLE at job #2, and #1 would be pretty fun and it would also help me get a job later in life...

So:

1- Enjoyment, experience, better hours, more freedom (can take time off)

or

2- Money

1 by far. Why torture yourself for just money? Summer is for fun.

You're still getting money at job #1...

so why do you want to torture yourself at job #2?

It's not worth it.

1. All the way.

it depends. what kind of cookies you would get?

You know Pepperidge Farm cookies? Like Milanos? THOSE.

I know, pretty good cookies, haha.

Being at a job you hate isn't worth it. Though min. wage sucks, at least you'll be happier. :)

Ah, and I must mention: No matter how many times they rehire me, I will seriously never get a raise. I know people who have their degree and still haven't gotten a raise with job #1. Ah well.

But I guess I'm hoping that I could put two summers or so into that and then try to get a job an an overnight camp (#1 is a day camp)...

Or, you could get a job working nights at a place that's open late on top of the day camp job. Though, I have to say, regardless of how much you love the kids, they're exhausting.

Very true. I work with the #1 place already with a different program and it's craaaaaazy. But you're right- I could work a few more hours at nights too if I really wanted to...

I guess I'm leaning more and more towards #1... ugh.

The prospect of working at #2 has been making me sort of dread the summer, and that's not a good feeling to have... so I should probably just take #1 and forget about the extra money.

Will having slightly more money at the end of summer (a few hundred dollars at most) really make that much of a difference in the long run?

Will you look back and say, you know, even though I make hundreds of dollars a week, I'm glad I decided to torture myself to make an extra $100.

No matter where you work as a HS student, you won't make very much money. The experience is way more valuable.

Definitely do job 1.

definitely definitely definitely take job number one. i currently spend all day and night for three days straight (fr-sat-sun) at a job i HATE and every single thursday i spend dreading my work week and can't do anything productive it's so consuming. after i come home from work each day i feel like violently punching someone in the face and making them bleed (and i have NO aggressive tendencies when i'm not under the influence of my job).
if i wasn't so addicted to the money i make there and knew i could easily find another job, i would quit immediately. DON'T GET YOURSELF STUCK IN THIS CYCLE. DON'T!!!

have a good summer. :)

depends...........job 2: is it a labor work or actually getting involved in the company?

job 1:what is it?

go where u will get experience, can succeed, and will look bettter on ur resume.

1...if you quit your job at 2, it's not worth it

Job 2 would be cleaning or working on an assemblyish type line, straightening cookies or doing some other stupid thing like that.

Job 1 is working at a day camp. :D

I'm pretty sure I'm going with 1... I don't need the money THAT badly, I guess.

I just feel like I've made this decision before... with colleges, with carreers... "Money/Prestige vs Happiness" and so far I've always chosen the latter. I just thought for once I'd go for the superficial reason, but not this time I guess!

1.

Summer is for relaxation, not torture. We've got high school for that.

Yeah, unless you desperately need money, you should pick #1.

Like the majority of the people have replied....
