Choosing - Rensellaer, Northeastern, or Manhattan

Okay, so I went to the RPI Accepted Students Event and I really loved the school. However, my girlfriend is going to Boston U and I was thinking of going to Northeastern since it has a good engineering program as well. I live within a walking distance of Manhattan and I got a full scholarship there too. My best friend is most likely also going to Manhattan College.

My dad never filled the noncustodial form for NEU so I probably can't go there, so my main question is would Manhattan College by comparable to RPI for engineering (Computer/Electrical?) My friend is mostly going to Manhattan College because a person she likes is going there, and nobody I know is going to RPI, so is it still worth it?

Thanks for any advice anyone has!!!

I’d say go to RPI. NEU is pretty ok for engineering, but choosing it just because your girlfriend goes there rather…superficial for lack of a better word. The only thing you like about your college shouldn’t be that your girlfriend goes there. Also, Manhattan College is no where near RPI for engineering at all. Dont go to a college just because you know people there. Youll meet new people at the college you really like, witch seems to be RPI from your post.

Go to RPI. It’s a great engineering school.

the sad truth is is that you most likely won’t talk to many, if any, of your high school friends in college and afterward. go to RPI, fine engineering school, if you can afford it anyway. if it means going into debt, go to Manhattan

Id take RPI with reasonable (40ishk or less) debt over manhatten any day really. The long term career benifits will outweigh the debt.

Well I talked to my mom about the money and she said she can afford it, I’m regretting not applying to BU a bit but it’s a little too late for that anyway. Okay, thanks for all the responses!! They helped a lot. RPI is is then.

If you’re interested in engineering, then BU is really not the place for you (also, it’s generally overrated and overprice in my opinion). Also, RPI is a great school and it’s still on the rise… I believe that where you go to undergraduate will not limit you in any way, but going to a school where you’re going to get a better education in your field of interest and a school with a good reputation will really make your life a lot easier.

Thanks everyone!! I’m putting in the 500 dollars now!!!
