I know that last year students got to choose roommates over the internet through a project called CHARMS where you answered questions regarding habits and got to chat with potential matches. Does anyone know if they're going to be using it again this year? If they do, who's planning on using it? The other option is a traditional living preferences questionnaire and the college chooses your roommate for you.

I just want to get accepted. :)

I'm sure you will. I got in already (last year but took a year off) so I don't have to stress out this year!!

Most likely they will. The response to the program was really positive and the outcome (well, for the most part anyway) was good. They just ran an article about the CHARMS success in one of our publications. I'm pretty happy with my decision to use CHARMS, though.

How does it work exactly? What types of questions do you answer and can you actually discuss personal things with potential roommates (ie. where they are from, what they are planning to study)?

You feel out a questionnaire about certain things like cleanliness, sharing, music, study hours, sleep hours, temperature, etc. After the deadline, they open up the CHARMS system and you do your own searching. You can search for a person that meets all of your answers or just a few specific answers that are the most important to you. You can contact the person through the system (everyone has a number and you can assign them nicknames). You are not supposed to exchange names or other personal information like that, but you can definitely say what you are planning on studying and where you live.
