Choosing Schools to transfer to

First off, I'm wondering how many schools people usually apply to when they transfer.

Right now, the school I really want to go to is Oberlin. However, I wouldn't mind going to Hampshire. I had Vassar and Grinnell on my list, but I think I'd have a hard time getting accepted since my "stats" aren't spectacular. I also had Earlham on my list, but I'm not too big on the school...

Sorry if I'm not really articulating my question well, but I'm just wondering how people are approaching the transfer process... particularly choosing schools. I hate the school I'm at now, so there are several schools that I'd definitely transfer to.

Ok, seeing as my first attempt didn't go well... how many schools do transfer students typically apply to?

Should I even bother applying to "reach" schools like Vassar and Grinnell, if Oberlin ("match") is the one I absolutely adore?

Why not. I mean, my choice school at this time last year, was NYU CAS/Stern. I mean, I was DEAD set on going there. Around Christmas time, I went to U-M's Collage Concert, and I was blown away and I had forgotten what Hill sounded like. I didn't even turn my NYU app in (well more than one reason but hey, I wasn't that mad...) and just did my U-M app.

If you know that Oberlin is the school you want, I suggest putting more effort into it, aka researching. Your reach schools will be good in case Oberlin denies you (in case you get into a reach instead of a match...) and in case you change your mind.
