Hey everyone! I'm a senior in high school.

I've been accepted to UM's MT program, and am a finalist for UF's. I will be finding out some day this week if I was accepted.

I really love both atmospheres. However, I love the feel of Miami a lot more and believe I would fit in better there than at UF. Miami accepts 8-12 students a year and UF accepts 4. However, Miami does have a better reputation than UF.

UF would be the better option financially. Miami would be thousands of dollars more a year.

So, what should I do? Should I scout for more scholarships and grants and go to Miami where I feel more at home? Or should I settle for UF, that has a good program and a nice atmosphere, but doesn't necessarily click all the way?

If you’re seriously interested in Miami, try scouting for more scholarships. It couldn’t hurt. Maybe even show them the package you’re getting from UF and see if they could match it?

The problem is Broadway that Miami starts out $38,000 more than UF? Does anyone know how much money Miami currently gives freshman or upperclassmen for talent scholarships? Does anyone know where to find good outside resources for mt money?

My older son was BFA acting at UF and my younger son is graduating BFA MT UMIami this spring. Both felt like they had a great experience. For Fl residents U Miami will be a lot more expensive. They gave a small talent scholarship, and a generous academic scholarship if you meet the fairly difficult criteria (GPA, class standing, SAT). The Miami program seems to have a larger network in NY theater and this year they will also have a LA showcase in addition to the NY showcase. There are no mainstage opportunities for freshmen, and you are limited to one show a semester. At UF there are limited mainstage shows, but there is an extensive opportunity for well organized student run productions and a theater in the next town that does shows with a lot of students. My son frequently did three or four shows a semester at UF.
I think you would be happy at either place. You should spend some time talking with current students and faculty. My kids made their decisions based on the faculty and programming styles, which they did by making visits to the schools.
