I have recently been accepted into the University of St. Andrews in Scotland as well as a dual program with William & Mary (<5% acceptance rate for the program). The other schools I applied to are Middlebury, Bowdoin, Georgetown, UVa, Dartmouth, and The Coast Guard Academy. Assuming that, by some strange miracle, I am accepted into all of them, which would be the best for an International Relations Degree with an emphasis on Arabic? Would job prospects in America suffer were I to attend St. Andrews? I know it’s either the third or best school in the UK, but I have no clau how that translates into American rankings.
you’ve some serious mojo if you get into all of these. in that case, I wouldn’t worry about which one you attend but consider instead where you’ll do your best work. You have visited each of them, yes? Try to visit or revisit any of the schools into which you are admitted. That will help you decide where you’ll do your best work.
You seriously cannot go wrong with any of the schools you’ve listed. Just taking a shot in the dark here, but it looks like you’re a US Coast Guard hopeful, so why not go with that?
Don’t agonize now. First see where you get in, then see what is affordable, and then re-post. All great choices.
All great choices. Georgetown is a winner for international relations and Arabic, but hold off on the dreaming until the sheep is outside your fence. Out of the two you have been ACCEPTED to, William and Mary looks good. Why go to Scotland if you want to study Arabic?
I’d say Middlebury is a strong choice if your intended major is international relations and/or Arabic.
Georgetown or Middlebury for IR/Arabic, definitely.
But… right now you don’t really have to make that choice. Wait till your acceptances are in.
Middlebury has THE BEST Language program, and Georgetown’s Walsh School of Foreign Service is THE BEST IR program. I would say Georgetown because that is a really really tough program to get into.
Georgetown SFS if you get in.
Georgetown or Dartmouth.
If you get in, I’d say Middlebury with Georgetown a VERY close second.
