RCHUMS 253. Choral Ensemble.
(1). (CE). May be repeated for credit. Offered mandatory credit/no credit.

Section 001. Group rehearses twice weekly and prepares a thematic concert of music. Vocal skills, sight singing, and basic musicianship are stressed. No prerequisites, but a commitment to the group and a dedication to musical growth within the term are required. No audition necessary.

I'm really curious about this. I'm terrible at singing, but I think I would enjoy this a lot and I'm very interesting in possibly being able to sing well... Is it something that someone who hasn't had band classes (but can read (not sight read) music) or hasn't had choir or anything (but plays guitar, bass) could be involved in? I just don't want to sign up for it and then have everyone hate me because I'm terrible. Is it stressed that one possesses vocal skills, the ability to sight sing etc. or are those the things that they stress improving? Thanks if anyone can offer me any help.

I was in it last semester and it was really fun! I'll be honest, most of the people in that choir are good, talented singers but there are choirs where there are even better singers, where the competition to get onto those choir are fierce so don't believe what that description says. Unlike those choirs, this choir is very easy IMO to get into. All you have to do for tryouts is see how high or low you can sing so the director can place you in your spots i.e. soprano, tenor etc...... it's not hard to join, we are always looking for more members, especially men. Besides, even if you do suck, other members of the choir will be more than happy to help you pick up the slack. Btw, the director is awesome and hilarious who really cares about his students and the music. If you are serious in improving your voice and ability to sing well as well as learning how to sight read music, I suggest taking some voice lessons.

Hmm, thanks, but I'm apprehensive and probably shouldn't join that thing yet... I don't really want to make a fool of myself and make the group sound bad because I'm in it. Bah, I'll think about it though. Thanks.

I was in Arts Chorale last semester and will be again in the fall. That is another fun choir that anyone can join. I think the choir you listed is for the RC only.
