Anyone know if CHPers need to take the chem placement test or are they automatically enrolled in honors general chem?

I went crazy about calling what placement tests I had to take since I have a few community college classes down. Apparently, only engineering majors HAVE to take the chem test. As for you, I'm not completely sure. If chem honors means higher level chem, you probably have to take the test. If chem honors means honors level chem at any class level, I don't think you need to take it.

If you are a CHP student you DO NOT have to take the chem placement test. As you thought, CHP students are automatically placed in honors chem. However, it might be a good idea to take the test anyway, just so you can see what your strenghts and weaknesses are. But regardless of how you do on the placement test, you'll still be placed in Chem H2A. Call Susan or Ryan at the CHP office and they'll tell you the same thing.

if im a comp sci engineering major do i need to take placement tests?

You guys need to learn how to use the UCI website. Almost everything you want to know can be found there. Or buy the catalogue.

So would it be smart to just buy the catalogue now and read over the summer?

damn i registered for the chem test though. i dont see why i should bother getting up so early to take it if it doesnt impact my placement. can i just not show up?

There's a version of the catalogue online that you can look at now. The best time to buy a hard copy is when you come to campus for a placement test. I'd give you the link for the online catalogue, but I figure that you are smart enough to find it on your own. I'll give you a hint - start at the UCI homepage.

Don't read the whole thing. You'll kill yourself because of the boredom. Read about breadth and stuff, and flip through the part for your school and major requirements. But the key is to know when and how to use the catalogue. Basically, any academic question should first be looked up in the catalogue before calling a counselor.

If you registered for the chem test and don't need to take it, then call up the testing office and cancel. That's not too hard of a concept.

Thanks alicantekid. I'll pick one during SPOP 1. I'm really curious about things so I won't bore myself reading the catalogue don't worry haha.

yes no tests to take, even though i am in engineering (but in non-engineering department)
