CHP/Regents Question

In mid-February, I got a letter from UCI inviting me to CHP (Campuswide Honors Program). However, they made no mention of the Regents' scholarship. I know that in past years (08-09), all students who were invited to CHP got the Regents'. I don't know if that was the case for last year. Is it the case for this year? Or are there people who have gotten CHP as a freshman admit, but not Regents? Or vice versa?

Today, I received a large envelope from UCI re-iterating the acceptance that I'd gotten in January. Other UCs like SD and D, not UCI, say they'll notify you of whether or not you get the Regents' when you get admission. I'm assuming that since it is March, this must be my official admittance letter. There was not a mention of Regents'. Will they notify me separately if I do get it? Or is this it -- that I didn't get it? Has anyone from this year gotten it yet?

I was invited for an interview for Regents at Berkeley, so I believe that I had a good shot at Regents for Irvine.

My son received mail from UCI around mid Feb that he got Regents Scholar which also included CHP. I seem to remember others posted the same a while ago. Maybe search posts a few weeks back.

Is that so? Thanks for your information.

How does Irvine determine its Regents? I heard it was only by academics, or do they take a holistic view?

From what I understand CHP students are picked by the individual departments the student is applying to, while Regents is pure numbers. Could be wrong, though.

I don’t think everyone who gets into CHP gets regents. I know a lot of people who got into CHP and very few who got regents.

What kind of numbers does it take to get Irvine Regents?

I know Cal doesn’t go by pure numbers.

I have no idea how Regents Scholars are selected. But I think every UC campus uses its own criteria. Also every UC campus gives different awards for Regents with UCSB being the most generous.

My son got invited to apply for UCLA Regents, got selected Regents for UCI and UCSB. But did not hear from any others. Since it is well into March, we assume haven’t heard means not getting any. Stats: 4.0 uw gpa, 4.45 UC gpa, 2290 SAT, 800/790 SAT II

Congrats to your son! His stats are awesome.

Thanks for your info. It’s just a bit disappointing when Berkeley asked me for an interview for Regents, but Irvine didn’t offer the award to me. The perks for the Regents scholarship at any UC are nice, but I guess I’ll survive without them.

Is your son planning on going to Irvine?

LotusP,
Getting Berkeley Regents interview means you are already accepted. Congratulations. Berkeley is a great school. I am a Berkeley alum.

I don’t know where my son plans to go since he also found out today that he got selected UCLA and UCSD Regents. He plans to attend the college days and he has a lot to think about for the next month.
