Chp

I remember earlier in the schoolyear i got mail about something like campuswide honors at UCI...It was in this big envelope with blue pamphlets. Was that related to these recent admissions at all? Because i got the envelope but not the email and i didnt get accepted yet =[

I got the CHP brochure in October and I got accepted yesterday!
Am I automatically in the Honors program if they invited me or do I have to apply separately for it?
Has anyone heard from any other UCs yet?

Does that answer your question?

Yes. Thank you.

You can RSVP for Honors Day at the honors main page: honors.uci.edu
You need your UCI student ID number.

if i can't go to the honors experience day, will that affect my admission into the program?

^ I don't think it's mandatory. Just send an e-mail explaining you can't go.

The CHP Honors Experience Day is not mandatory, it is merely there to allow people who have gotten into the honors program at UCI to get a better idea of what they will be getting themselves into if they decide to join the CHP (i.e. core classes, honors classes, programs, events, etc.)

So who attended Honors Experience Day today and what was it like?

^ I saw people eating in the commons, but I dunno what they did before/afterwards.

First we registered, then a student came up to me and told me about the school. She was really nice and was able to answer all my questions about dorms and class sizes. Then we went into a conference room where we saw a powerpoint about the school and a couple of professors and other people talked about research opportunities and quality of education. CHP students also answered questions.

Then, we went on a tour of the campus. It was a nice campus, really big with a lot of nature. Everything looked so new and clean, however the campus gets pretty empty on weekends because Irvine is a commuter school.

Then we had lunch. Ton of food. Freshman 15 is real. Then a really nice girl gave me a tour of the residence hall. I really liked it... not like traditional dorm. It was like a big house with several rooms, living rooms, bathrooms, kitchen/game room, laundry room. Pretty spacious and very clean.

Then we broke up into majors. I'm biology, so we went into a biology lecture hall where they boasted about how their students went on to big name grad/med schools. There were a couple girls to answer questions. The biology department seems impressive to me and CHP seems like it has amazing opportunities (mandatory research/thesis, humcore seems like fun, professors who actually know you by name, CHP retreats, etc.).

Overall, pretty campus, friendly people, great school, amazing dorms. Don't know if I'll go there because I got a scholarship to UCSB, but it's still an option.

Any specific questions?

Konakai: Any news on when decisions will be announced generally? Last year apparently they came out in dribs and drabs....

Thanks.

I have no idea. I heard that they will come out in waves, the first being regents/CHP candidates which came out late February. I guess the rest of admissions will come out in mid-march, like the other mid-tier UCs.

This probably didn't come up, konakai, but for students who didn't get the invite, still choose to attend UCI, and want to apply for CHP, how likely is it that they get accepted to the program?

I don't know. I checked the website and it says that the minimum college GPA after a quarter of study at UCI is 3.5, but many applicants have a higher GPA. I'm thinking it's pretty selective.

I went to Honors Experience Day as well. The person above mentioned basically what happened. When we broke into subgroups according to our majors, I went to business. They talked about how the program is capped at 120 people for each class and that they have the highest mean GPA. They also said that if you are undeclared or would like to express an interest to switch into the business administration major you should notify them immediately so that they can see if you make it in, since it's capped at such a low number.

konakai27:

I also received the UCSB regent's, but not UCI's. I thought UCSB was more competitive than UCI...

I think UCI draws a more competitive applicant pool. I'm guessing a lot of people apply to SB because it's a party school that's right on the beach.

Oh I see. Lame! Oh well haha I heard it was only 2500 a year so total would've been 10,000, which is measly compared to the UCSB one

Regents at Irvine is only $2,500? I thought it was full tuition.

It's funny because Irvine seems like a better school, but when I tell people I got accepted to Irvine they seem unenthusiastic. When I say I got into UCSB, they get all excited. It's only because of their party school reputation.
