Christian College Stats

On another thread, Creekland did some excellent research and compiled the following list. I thought it would be helpful to post it here so others can add to the list as need be. I have taken the liberty of editing Creekland's post slightly to eliminate the information pertaining to the other thread.

From Creekland:

Based on academic challenge (as per SAT/ACT stats of students) in order from most challenging to least (some of them can swap a place or two pending which stats appeal to a student more):

Wheaton (CR 600/710, M 600/700, WR 590/700, ACT 27-31)
Grove City (CR 560/690, M 570/680, NA, ACT 25-30)
Calvin (CR 530/660, M 550/670, NA, ACT 23-28)
Hope (CR 530/650, M 530/650, NA, ACT 23-29)
Union U (CR 510/650, M 510/640, NA, ACT 21-29)
Cedarville (CR 540/650, M 530/640, WR 520/630, ACT 22-27)
Covenant (CR 520/650, M 510/620, WR 510/640, ACT 22-28)
Messiah (CR 510/620, M 510/640, WR 510/620, ACT 23-28)
Malone (CR 470/590, M 470/590, WR 460/580, ACT 20-25)
Liberty (CR 430/540, M 420/530, NA, ACT 18-23)

Granted theses scores are the mid 50% (25% higher than the high and 25% lower than the low), but, students that are at Liberty or Malone are unlikely to get in to Wheaton, so there is a wide variety between the top and low - and the 'challenge' of the courses is likely to vary accordingly..

From what I've seen/heard from alumni, students, and school publications or otherwise figured out from my research here's a list from most conservative (Christian beliefs) to least - NOT including Malone as I'd never heard of them before. Other opinions could shift these a little, but I've heard enough that I suspect the list is fair.

Most conservative (of this list only)

Liberty, Cedarville,

Politically conservative, slightly less so than above Christianity-wise

Grove City, Union U

Leaning conservative, but staff can vary

Covenant

Trending liberal from conservative roots

Calvin, Wheaton

More liberal

Messiah

Liberal

Hope

Perhaps someone with knowledge of Malone can stick them on the list... others might shift the list a little based on their opinions as well.

I am going to add 2 to the list:

Wheaton (CR 600/710, M 600/700, WR 590/700, ACT 27-31)

Also, correct me if I am wrong, but I think Taylor would either be Most Conservative or Politically Conservative?

I don’t know, but I would doubt it as I know a parent who’s daughter goes there. The family is neither very conservative politically nor Christian-wise as best I can tell through conversations. They feel Taylor is a great fit and absolutely love the school, so my guess is it’s in the moderate range.

This is written without actually talking to the daughter about what is taught, so who knows? It’s just a guess. Taylor is not a college I’ve researched personally. I’d probably recommend it based on their love for the school.

I’d place Taylor as similar to Wheaton, Calvin. Very mission minded. The pres there for years was also the head honcho at YWAM …they had a sort of COO type arrangement where the next-in-charge was most often the man-in-charge for campus matters.

It is a neat, attractive campus. Upland is literally in the middle of cornfields w/ a miniscule little town. Think “upland bird hunting” and you’ll envision this place, and not too far from Anderson. Unless one goes to their Ft. Wayne campus, which is a former Bible college that TU purchased back in the mid-90’s. Urban missions, nursing, etc. are located there.

What about …
Biola
Azuza Pacific
Westmont

Biola is rather conservative.

I think if folks are going to bring a comprehensive list back to life, this might be the better one to do it on. I also updated the official test stats since many of those had changed slightly. I’ll add those from that final list to these - though can’t always put them on the Christian liberal/moderate/conservative aspect of it.

Based on academic challenge (as per SAT/ACT stats of students) in order from most challenging to least (some of them can swap a place or two pending which stats appeal to a student more):

I’m sure I’ve missed some - feel free to add here. Actually, I might even cut and paste this into a new, updated thread.
