Hi guys :)

So i visited Williams College last summer and absolutely loved it. it is my top choice as of now and i do plan to apply ED. I was just wondering if anyone has information, especially current students, on whether or not there are Christian fellowships on campus/ churches in the area that people attend. I currently attend a non-denominational church and even though I love Williams College with its open curriculum and campus, it is also really important for me to know that there is some form of Christian fellowship there before I make the final decision to apply ED.

Thanks in advance for your time :)

Williams does not have an open curriculum and there are not many Christian fellowships.

On campus, there is the Williams Christian Fellowship, sponsored by the Chaplains’ Office. I know a few of the members and they are very nice, welcoming people. The friendships they forge in the group seem to serve as a comforting break from the personal challenges they face in an ideologically diverse yet secular college environment.

Off campus:
The Community Bible Church is a non-denominational fellowship in Williamstown. I believe volunteers from the church pick up students in a van and drive them to and from Sunday services. Otherwise, there is the First Congregational Church in the center of the campus, a Baptist church on the eastern edge of the campus, and a Methodist church on Water St. (a short walk).

I am a (low-profile) Catholic on campus, so my knowledge of these things is pretty limited. But this page may have some links to the information you are looking for: [Communities at Worship | Chaplains? Office](Communities at Worship – Chaplains’ Office)

St. John’s Episcopal Church is right in the middle of the campus, between frosh quad and the 62 Center. The congregation is a warm and welcoming group. They sponsor activities for students and several students sing in their excellent choir. My dd says there are many diverse religious groups on campus, and she loves attending the various activities that they sponsor.

thank you all for the insight!

@kiddo64 oops i mistyped. what i meant was a loose curriculum where there are some requirements but not a super structured curriculum.

I am not a student at Williams, instead perusing to answer some questions for my brother who is seriously considering the College, but I can give you some info about the Williams Christian Fellowship, as I have attended a couple of conferences with them as a member of the Brown Christian Fellowship. Long story short: they seem really friendly, even if there version of Mafia is honestly among the most complicated card games I have ever tried my hand at (and this is an Eagle Scout you’re typing to!). Unlike at Brown, where the Christian community is for better or worse divided into many groups, the Christian community at Williams seems really consolidated around the WCF. It has always been one of the larger groups at the conference - despite Williams’ comparatively small size - and they seem very proud of a literary magazine they produce on campus (cannot remember the name though…) Their organizer, Caleb, was really funny and approachable, even for someone like me who wasn’t with the Williams group. All in all, I liked the WCF students really quite alot and would be happy to vouch for them, at least as an outsider looking in; though on the Open Curriculum front, I’m afraid my school has still got Williams beat… (gotta show some school-spirit here!)

My D is a student at Williams and is a christian. There is the Williams Christian Fellowship and Williams Christian Athletes Club. There are a couple of churches nearby and a shuttle that will take you to church. My D has not had any issues fellow-shipping with other christian students. Enjoy your visit. I think you will love the school.
