Hey everyone,
Great news, I just got my official notice that I've been given an appointment to KP (pending a nomination and countinued good grades)!!!!! Needless to say I'm ecstatic!!! Now that I know for sure I'm attending KP, I'm wondering if there's anything I should want for Christmas that would help me in everyday life and training up there, I know that they issue me all the essentials, but is there anything "big" that I should be asking for...like a nice robe...a KP hoodie...Oakleys...etc. Not toothpaste or deoderant or anything haha. I'll be playing football and majoring in Marine Transportation, with the intent of serving my country after...if that helps with any ideas. Thanks a lot!!!

Well I wouldn’t tell them I asked for a .45 as a Christmas gift…seriiously though; just be relaxed and show up properly attired and ready to ask as well as answer any questions they have in a succint, direct, forthright manner.

You should help yourself generously to lots and lots of stuff from the KPStore - Seriously, and don’t forget about Mom, Dad, Grandparents, other candidates - even your Congressman… the “KP Grandma Thong” is still a big hit! Knock yourself out, you’ve earned it!

I see football in there… Your Fall season sport will end soon, but Indoc is a ways off.
Ask for some running shoes, and use 'em
Congrats, BTW.
(KEEP up your grades! Did I mention RUNNING yet )
Pack your sense of humor… don’t leave home without it.
‘Kings Point DAD’/‘Kings Point MOM’ coffee mugs are BIG… we love 'em.
For yourself, KP hoodie for cold weather and other stuff like that will keep up your excitement.

For our son, we applied for (and got) “USMMA’yy” license plate (where yy is your graduating year).
Be quick, only 1 per state. Fortune and DMV favors the bold, and early clickers.

Also, if you are NOT from the North, it WILL be cold, and you WILL see snow. Add some thermal things to your list. Did I mention Running?

Neil:
Hope your interview went well, if you have the conditional appointment chances are you will get an the Congressional appointment.
Getting in is tough, staying at Kp is tougher. The word is that approximately 10% of the Class of 2014 are already gone, after Indoc and the first trimester. The big killer is calculus, unless you are an absolute wizz at it; the best Christmas gift you can get is a good college calc. review book such as “Calculus” by Elliot Gootman available from Amazon.com and master it. Not at all unusual for guys who got A’s in H.S. to pull a D or F at KP. A word to the wise.

About a LOA being a conditional appointment?

Not at all, that’s exactly what they are. Anyone who has an LOA better make sure they satisfy the condition on the LOA or it will not turn into an appointment.

As for recommending an Ed Brown Custom .45, why would I kid about that?

It’s probably the finest handmade custom firearm in the world, truly a work of art from a master gunsmith, and a very thoughtful gift suggestion that the recipient will treasure for the rest of their life.

I bought my son a waterproof, shock proof digital camera for Christmas. He needed it for shipping out and of course used it at the Academy. Also got him the Spider knife (I don’t remember the details)…but he used both during his shipping out.

OOOH i know! A down comforter. I got my bf one his plebe year for christmas. And he used it every night.
I made sure it was okay for him to have it by emailing an upperclassmen i knew.

RE: The gift ideas here - love the ideas from “ftgordon” however re: USMMA Apparel I urge folks looking to procure USMMA related apparel through the Alumni Association sponsored website as a significant portion the profits go to the Alumni Foundation which then donates significant sums to the Academy each year in support of numerous programs. That website is NOT the website for which USMMECOM provided the URL above. The URL of the Alumni Association Sponsored apparel website is:

10% of all proceeds from KPStore go directy back to the Alumni Foundation as an unrestricted donation to the Academy - So, don’t feel guilty… Shop away!

The Alumni Foundation Website is run by a third party, focuses on sports, and does not have anywhere near the cleaver witty apparel offered in the KPStore - apparel invented by the Mids.

USMMECOM: Fair enough, glad to hear you are also donating a portion of the proceeds to the Foundation and I agree there’s nothing as clever on the Official/Politically Correct site as the KP Grandma Thong…
