Christmas present for Art History passion?

My D is pursuing two degrees - biochem and art history. The biochem will support med school hopes, the art history is because she has a lot of credit already towards the degree, and because she loves it. She's a junior this year and will likely be awarded departmental honors.

I went with her to some very nice national museums last year, and I couldn't drag her away from the exhibits. She'd spend nearly 20 minutes in front of each and every exhibit, obsessed with every detail.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything at all about art, or art history. I'd like to get her something very nice for Christmas - actually - sort of a dual Christmas/birthday gift, as her 21st birthday is in early January.

Any ideas? I did ask her what she wants for Christmas, and she didn't give me anything useful to go on.

Thanks in advance for any ideas, I appreciate it.

Aweesome book. She might know everything in the book but it's the only comprehensive and fun Art History book that I know of.

If that link doesn't work...
the ISBN is 0836280059
Book is called : The Annotated Mona Lisa

Thanks - that's exactly what I was looking for. I was in bookstores today trying to decide on something, and of course they all had a few gift-type art history books, but not knowing the subject matter I couldn't decide if any of them were worth buying.

Thanks for this.
