So I was wondering what people did when applying with the common app. I know there’s a section of high school interruptions or something but there’s an option for GED but none for CHSPE. How do people usually deal with it?
I just mention it in my counselor letter. Since passing the CHSPE exam in and of itself does not exempt a student from attending high school, many homeschoolers pass the test, and continue with high school while taking college classes. If, OTOH, you took the CHSPE and passed and were done with high school (meaning, your parents gave the ok for you to be finished), then your parent or whoever is your GC would write that.
@sbjdorlo
Thank you for your reply!
Well what if you went to CCC?
What is CCC?
California community college
Not sure I understand what you’re asking. Do you mean you’re attending community college in California as a high schooler? Just have your official transcripts sent to the schools to which you’re applying. First four are free; after that, it’s $5 a pop. And include all the classes on the homeschool transcript.
@MizuRue CHSPE is not usually recognized or accepted as completing high school, outside of California. The non-CA colleges will look for the GED. However, since you’re in a CCC also looking to transfer to a UC, you don’t have to mention having passed the CHSPE unless you need to, such as to explain a gap in your education since high school.
@sbjdorlo No, I’m no longer a high school student but a full time student at the college
@Happy2Help Wait what do you mean? So should I just say that there was no interruption at my common app then? The UC was fine; I"m done with that but I"m worried about the fact that there’s no option to put it in the common app. Even if I apply to only CA schools, I don’t know what I should write at the high school interruption section.
Be sure your CHSPE is on your HS transcript and it’s spelled out plus the passing date is entered.
For CA colleges you should be fine, enter date of passing. For non-CA schools, you’ll have to say CHSPE is CA’s HS diploma equivalent and enter the date of passing. Unfortunately it is not a GED equivalent.
Perhaps you should call the schools you’re interested in and ask them directly, to help you determine if you should apply.
Good luck!
