Best college in y'alls opinion for a church music/sacred music major.

Bob Jones University.

even though my aunt went there(what went through her mind i dont know, however she is a very succesful head research nurse at UT-Southwestern Medical Center), id prefer somewhere where I can say, listen to contemporary Christian music, which u cant do at Bob Jones. I just dont get why people go to places like ORU, BJU, Liberty, and worse of all, Pensacola Christian College.

hey, its their choice, dont rip on it. respect it, but disagree. anyway, there are plenty of colleges with music majors, but you can focus on specific areas of music, like church/modern church music. many of these colleges are in the south.

I'm gonna give a plug for my school on this one, haha, but seriously, Azusa Pacific University has a very strong school of music and is a nationally acredited and well-recognized Christian liberal arts college. At 8500+ students, it is the largest Christian school in the western US and second largest in the country.
In addition, our commercial music program is very well-respected and you might want to take a few of those courses (as electives) in order to help prepare you for your leading worship in a CCM style. You might want to check it out at www.apu.edu/music
Biola University also has a good-looking program, however we consistently have students transferring from their program to ours (and not the other way around) and I've heard it's better on paper (or the website) than in the classroom!

Don't go to Bob Jones University

If you...

Don't want curfew at 10:25

Want to want PG Rates Movies (It's against the school policy to watch any movie that is not G rated)

Want to watch movies in your dorm (It's against the school policy to watch movies in the dorm)

Want to play any game that is rated T, M, or AO.

Want to listen to Country, Jazz, New Age, Rock, Rap, and CCM

I was only joking. I can't get BJU outta my head!!!!

looking for a smaller school. kinda like it smaller or just a little bigger than my high school(2800 ppl). so area schools for me like smu and baylor are a little too big. one exception however is unt 10 minutes up the road from me in my county. what are some good small schools for music in my area(i live in dallas, wanna be within 6 hours driving distance since my whole family lives in dallas and i need to be available for them)

I don't know much about the music programs at any of the other colleges tht collegehelp mentioned, but I do know that St. Olaf's music progrm is very well-respected, and, since it is a Lutheran school, I am sure you could find what you are looking for.

Collegehelp's list is good.
BU and Yale's church music programs are grad level only. Both are really terrific, and both result from collaborations of great music schools with great div schools.
The Univ. of the South in Sewanee, TN has no church music major, but it has one of the best college choirs in the South, which does extensive church work, a superb scholar of Renaissance (and modern) church music, and a great church organist/Dupre specialist.

my uncle was a football(oline/dline) coach at university of the south. wonder if thatll help me in.

whats yalls general opinion on calvin college up in michigan?

Calvin's a good school. My friend's brother turned down U of M and Kalamazoo for Calvin.

bju.......;)

St Olaf is very well known for choral music.

Lawrence University has its own music conservatory, like Oberlin does. Oberlin is very liberal; Lawrence is a little more conventional.

gosh what is it with yalls fascination with bju. pensacola christian fascinates me more.
