Have any Chicago students on here taken classes in the Cinema and Media Studies department? The breadth of selection looks fairly good, but I'm still in the dark with regards to the quality of Chicago's program.

the one on silent film looked really interesting… i dont know anything about the quality of the program, but i know that tons of students are really into documentary films. a girl who won the rhodes scholarship from chicago a few years ago was given a few thousand dollars to make her own film about life in africa. “Doc films” is also a student run group that puts on a wide variety of films- one every day.

If you want to study film theory and criticism, UChicago is a perfectly fine place for undergraduate work. If you want to make films and work with actors and write and direct, you should pick a school in LA or NYC.

That said, I would suggest against concentrating on filmmaking as an undergrad unless you want to work as a DP or in production.
