Hi, so I'm a Canadian student, and I'm doing the IB. My scores are predicted to be in about the 34-36 category and I've gotten 7s film plus I've done an internship, received a lot of awards for film and I've got a pretty broad portfolio. I've also made films in Kenya, Israel, Jordan... a lot of places and I know I have the passion. I also am a pretty good writer.
My SAT score is around an 1800 - not spectacular I know. But what do you think my chances are of getting in? I know how competitive USC is so I really want to know... I couldn't see myself going anywhere else
Is there anything else I can do? I'm applying this fall to the get into the Film & Television Production program

You can study over the summer and try to bring your SAT scores up. Or you can take the ACT instead. It can’t hurt to try. USC is a pretty holistic school, so they’ll definitely take your portfolio into account when you apply.

It all depends on whether you can tell a good story or not in my opinion. For your visual samples and personal essays, don’t focus on making everything look pretty or using the essays as a vehicle to show off all the awards you’ve won or the classes you take. Instead, tell a story about a lesson you learned in Kenya and how it impacted you as a person or maybe write about some incredible person you met in Jordan and why they’re important.
That’s what I did and I got in with no honors classes, no AP/IBs and a 3.63 GPA. And yes, definitely add many things to your portfolio, but make sure it’s not JUST directing films. If you’ve painted something for a class, designed a logo for a company, entered an art competition, add it all in. They want to see a variety.
