Thanks

This program is very well-regarded in the industry. Several years ago one of their workshop productions developed into The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which ran on Broadway for a few years. I believe many, if not most of the original cast members were from the original workshop.

CITS is a reputable two year conservatory program in the city. It also has a very good summer program.

onstage, I think you must be thinking of another show which workshopped at CITS. Spelling Bee was actually developed and workshopped at Barrington Stage by Bill Finn and Rachel Sheinkin with an initial run off-Broadway at Second Stage before moving to Broadway at the Circle in the Square Theatre. I can't think of any castmembers who went to CITS.

Oops -- I could have sworn that's what the program says, but it's been a few years and my memory is rapidly going downhill.

Im planning on hopefully attending CITS after getting my BFA. It's pretty competitive though..

My D went to CITS summer program between sophomore and junior year of college. She absolutely LOVED it and would, I think, have been happy to do their 2-year conservatory instead of or in addition to her BFA. Said the faculty were outstanding.

I agree with others that it is reputable and well regarded. Some students enter at college age but some attend AFTER college to get the training they may not have gotten in college. They also have a good summer intensive.

My D has worked a lot with at least two faculty members (one for voice and one for acting) here in our home state as both commuted weekly to CITS to be on the faculty but taught privately in our state and they are both excellent. She had the voice teacher for five years prior to college in fact. She has done some workshops in our state with other CITS faculty who have come up to run these. All were very good.

CITS or USC? Kid has been accepted at both.... NYC or LA:) oh my. your thoughts...

eddysonwhdby- congratulations on both acceptances. My son was accepted at CITS straight out of HS too and really liked the school. The two year program is excellent and as previously shared is very well regarded by industry professionals but with no degree programs. Both the Acting and Musical Theatre tracks at CITS have an excellent industry reputation. There's plenty of depth and experience in the faculty. CITS is a very intense and demanding program according to several grads we spoke with.

NYC and LA are two different worlds, however, both offer a vast number of excellent school choices for theatre. Aside from the length of training, there is a huge difference between USC and CITS, mainly a college environment and a BFA/BA upon completion. Also mentioned above, there is only a handful of students accepted straight out of HS. The majority have some college experience. Kevin Bacon is one notable who attended CITS without college.

My son eventually decided that he would prefer a BFA program. In May, he was selected from the waitlist and enrolled at The Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Purchase College in the fall. He (mom & dad) preferred not to deal with housing, transportation and other high NYC costs. Purchase is very well regarded for theatre too and close to NYC.

Through our research we have discovered that there are many good schools out there. Mainly, it's finding and narrowing down to the right fit, since schools come in many shapes and sizes.

eddyson, congratulations on the acceptances. I'm curious, however, how you are just now making this decision?

well.... she was accepted, mighty late, as a transfer student at USC and in past two weeks she got her award letter and financially it's a draw.... her choice is CITS and that suits us... we would much rather visit NYC then LA! We live in the Puget Sound and they are of equal distance.... I posed the question because it was such a contrast and i wanted some additional insight just in case she had difficulty in deciding.... i am glad it i didn't have to make the choice! thank you

I was just accepted to both Circle in the Square and New York Film Academy’s Musical Theatre programs. The cost might play a role, but right now I want to know if anyone has any information on the two programs.

I don’t know too much about either program, but based on what I have heard, especially on this forum, is that CITS has a much better reputation than NYFA.
