Hey, so I was just wondering if being a year younger (I entered school early) could be a circumstance to list in my common app. I seriously feel as though it was a limitation for me, however I do not know how to word it. Any thoughts?
Thank you
I’d leave it alone. If you point it out as an issue, schools might think you should wait a year. I don’t really see a way to word that to your advantage.
Thank you. Yes, I see what you are saying. However, I intend to take a gap year, should have mentioned that, and that was one of the reasons I was considering mentioning the age factor.
I wouldn’t put it. Schools might take that as an admission of not being mature enough, or an excuse for anything lackluster on your app. Tons of kids start school a year early or take advanced courses with higher grades.
Nah, not uncommon.
Ah makes sense, thank you
I guess it would not excuse anything as I have all As, in all APs, and high scores.
Sounds like you did great then so why the need to mention it at all? I’m confused. Are you attempting to get brownie points for being young?
What “circumstances” are you trying to explain?
More as a reason to why I want to take a gap year. However, I want to be accepted senior year.
Most colleges are perfectly fine with you taking a gap year. In fact, many of the most competitive colleges encourage their students to take a gap year because they are aware of the benefits of doing so. So, you don’t really need to justify your decision to do so. Are you applying ED? If not, don’t even worry about the gap year right now. You can address that after an admission’s decision is made.
BTW, I am personally a big fan of gap years. Both my kids took them and had wonderful, positive experiences. Both were on the younger end of the range for their grade but that wasn’t a primary consideration in deciding to do a gap year.
