<p>Right now I am a freshman, and I am majoring in CIS(computer information systems), and I am thinking about switching my major to computer science. But I am not sure if that's a smart move, because I heard that CIS majors are more versatile and are more in demand by the employers. As of right now, I seem to be more interested in programming than in the stuff i learn in CIS classes, that's why i want to switch. But then I don't want to make the wrong move, and switch out of the major that has more potential in the end. What is everyone's opinion about all of that?</p>
<p>Simple way to put it
CIS is on the business side and computer science is on the computer side
CIS is more practical business applications while CS is theory based, data manipulation, algorithms and all that complex stuff .
If you like programming more, then I definitely recommend CS but if your more of a business oriented person then I would say stay in CIS.</p>

<p>Can you do both? I'm asking because my S double majored in those two: information systems (what it was called at his school) as primary major, then CS as secondary major. There was some overlap in reqs too which was a bonus.</p>
<p>It was a great combo when it came time for job interviews. At first I thought it might be putting too much into 2 "related" majors but, especially at interviews, he felt he had all bases covered.</p>

<p>Yea, true most colleges won't allow you to double major in those two. Double majoring in those two must be a quite intense curriculum with all the math and programming classes you gotta take for CS. But hey its doable.</p>
