i chose the mtvu card. sister thinks cash back card is way better.

ahhhh

i want to switch... but ... i don't know...

I've got MTVU and I like it a lot. You do really rack up the points.

If you want to switch and you already have the card, just call Citi. I'm sure they'll do it for you. If you don't have the card yet, I'd wait.

I've applied for the mtvu, waiting for mail.
do you have the list of stores that the mtvu gives extra points? the thankyounetwork site doesn't show me unless i register, and i can't register until i get the card

when it says 5pts for bookstores, restaurants, record stores and theaters, do i need to buy from specific named locations?

the thing is, after college the card seems a bit weird.. and doesn't canceling a credit card hurt credit history a lot?

I tried to get it, but their website's down for maintenance, etc, and won't let me in. If I get in later, I'll try to post a list.

No, any store works. I get 5 pts for my university bookstore purchases.

I never heard of canceling a card as hurting your credit history...unless you have a balance that's never paid, perhaps? But again, you can just call Citi and upgrade to a new card at absolutely no penalty.

Unless you're paying an annual fee, you (generally) should never cancel a card. The number of accounts you have open does not hurt you (only the initial opening of a card, which usually involves the company doing a "hard pull" on your credit report, does). Your credit utilization (current balance divided by total credit) makes up a major part of your credit score. When you close the account, your available credit decreases, increasing your overall credit utilization. Additionally, the average age of your accounts is extremely important (its also the biggest thing that drags down a college student's credit score). Keeping old accounts open helps to increase the average of credit--closing the card will hurt it.

Can I change the mtvu card for another offered by citi without affecting my credit history/score after a few years?

redski59 still intending to post it?

Ok, sorry about this but they did upgrade and redesign their site lately, and I just found out that I have to re-register my card. I just tried, but the site doesn't recognize my SSN! Now I've got to wait until Monday to call them! :(

I have both.

Redski......

if it says bestbuy.com, I can't earn those bonus pts when I buy something at the store ("real life store")?

Ah, I recieved the card. Most of the extra points are through online only. Darn.

Well, I'm not sure of the exact policy but I think after at least a month or two, you can call Citi and switch to the cashback if you want.

Have fun with your card. and don't spend too much! ;)
