I was curious to know if anyone has had any experience with the Circle In the Square musical theatre 2 year conservatory audition? I am very interested in the program but have not heard much about their selection process. I am interested in their summer program as well. Do students who attend their summer program get an edge into the conservatory. Any information would be very helpful.

Students who do the summer program can tell the head of the program (Colin O’Leary) and all of their teachers that they would like to be considered for the 2 year program. At the end of the summer they will be told whether or not they have been accepted based on summer teachers’ opinions of their work. The summer teachers are largely the same as the 2-year teachers, with only several exceptions. I wouldn’t say this is an “edge”, but it definitely can’t hurt you. You’re being judged then on 7 weeks of intense work instead of 3 minutes in an audition room.

The audition is very straight forward – a full song and 2 monologues (1 classical, 1 contemporary). You will audition either in front of Colin O’Leary or Colin and Ted Mann who started the CITS theatre. Nothing unexpected, just your song, your monologues, and then you’re done, pretty much. For the summer program, they will likely tell you on the spot if you’ve been accepted. For the 2 year, I’m not sure.
