also plan on double majoring in psychology and criminal justice and then going to grade school and studying forensic psychology

there is nothing edgy about George Washington. It is as yupscale as you can get. People are obsessed with money and flash. Conspicuous Consumption? Oh, yes, may I have another helping, please? I don’t know how it got on your list. There are some schools on your list that are just plain NOT edgy: Temple hasn’t been edgy since Afrocentrism went the way of the Discovery Foundation. Cal State LA? really? Gay-friendly, maybe? I’m clearly missing something.

Have you thought of Bard, Sarah Lawrence, Bryn Mawr, Oberlin, RISD, or Wesleyan? What about UNC-Asheville? Great arts scene even if it’s a red state. It appeared to be a gay-friendly city (in comparison to many college cities I’ve visited) on my visit this summer.

Temple might not be “edgy,” but Philly is a fun city for young people, and more affordable than most other cities. It has a very active gay scene, too. Pace is very pre-professional, and not strong in Humanities, but it is not as selective as some other colleges in NYC. You should also try Eugene Lang College/New School. It is a small, progressive liberal arts college just a few blocks north of NYU. What field(s) are you interested in pursuing? You might also want to look at Columbia College Chicago if Media or Arts are your interests. As for jkeil911’s suggestions: apart from UNC-Asheville, most of those would not be likely admits for you if you consider NYU a big reach.
