City of Hope Eugene and Ruth Roberts Summer Student Academy 2014

Hey did anyone else apply to this?

I did

I applied as well. According to their website 1,250 people applied last year, so I wonder how many applied this year!

I think it would be more competitive this year since it’s getting more and more popular. Are you guys undergrads or high schoolers?

I applied too! I’m a graduating senior with no research experience so this is nerve racking.

I hope we can all get in!!! 8->

I’m a rising senior. I hope I can get into at least one program, but it seems unlikely with such low acceptance rates!

same boat as @meowzr. also applied to jackson labs…my chances aren’t looking very good lol

do you guys know when are we hearing back from them??

Hey everyone! I also applied. I am a homeschooled senior in high school. Also applied for CURE program.

I heard that they contact in in mid april

Ugh wish it was April already! I’m surprised this thread isn’t busier. I feel like a lot more people apply to this, but it’s strangely still on its first page!

Say I got into this internship, do you guys think that I should take this opportunity or should I go to a summer premed program in UC Irvine (they gave me scholarship)?

Hi everyone! I just discovered this page, but I applied as well. I’m a rising senior without much experience, so I’m guessing my chances aren’t great.

@avc118- City of Hope offers an incredibly generous stipend and you can’t beat the level of research going on there, but I don’t know much about the UCI summer pre-med program. If you’re more interested in general medicine than cancer research, go for the UCI program! You probably can’t go wrong either way.

@avc118 Personally, I would choose this program. Then again, that depends what you plan on majoring in, working as, and what they will be doing at the UCI premed program. Research will give you a step up in any science related field, including the medical field. As for UCI’s premed program, unless you plan to go into healthcare as a doctor or nurse, I don’t think it is as good as this program.

i see. alright… thank you so much!! I’ll probably just wait for the results on this one then I can decide which should i go to…

Hey everyone,
Any advice on SIMR vs this (assuming I get in, which is prolly not likely, but still…)? The stipend here would be on the generous side, but I’m not sure how the experiences would differ…

Has anyone gotten a response from City of Hope yet? Or does anyone know when we should be finding out?

@vivluo‌ i attended this program last year, and i got my acceptance somewhere around mid april
im guessing they’ll email the results in about a week or so

@persondontexist:
How does the second part of the application process work-? The City of Hope website said we had to contact mentors directly in order to secure a position in the program-- do you get a list of available mentors, etc?
Just curious as to what the steps are for this portion of the process. :)
