Haha,

So you can just designate the money to be charged to your bursar bill when you create an account?

Yep! You can either charge the money to your bursar bill or to your credit card, whichever you prefer.

Can we use debit cards? If not, then how do you set up an account?

Citybucks can be used in collegetown, when you order stuff to your dorm via campusfood.com (thats the main food delivery website for Cornell - pizza, chinese, anything unhealthy basically). You can’t use citybucks on campus. It basically just works like Big red bucks or cornell card but for restaurants in ithaca.

I barely used it as a freshman, but used it quit a bit once I moved off campus. When I moved off campus soph year I had no meal plan, and my parents just gave me the money to use for food on campus, at the grocery store or restaurant, or had me use Cornell card/citybucks to charge it to my student account.

A lot of kids take advantage of city bucks because their parents see it as a dining charge on the busar bill and don’t know that it is to restuarants. I know people that would buy beer cases with citybucks at Jason’s, or even use it at Ruloff’s or stella’s when out at night drinking. I am definitely guilty of going out to get sushi/saki bombs at Plum tree on city bucks.

So just be sure not to abuse it. If you use it for the occasional take out meal or dinner instead of your meal plan then it is a good option. Just like cornell card, city bucks aren’t really necessary if you have a credit card.

Here is a list of restaurants that accept citybucks:

thanks so much for your input, jcas! i’ve decided not to add money to my citybucks account yet…as a freshman with the 14 meals/week plan, ill probably stick to the dining hall and BRBs. i can see citybucks becoming really useful in the future, though.
