Civil engineering and architecture

Not saying I'm going to do this, I'm just curious. Is it at all useful to double major in civil engineering and architecture? I've heard a lot about it and was curious.

Nevermind there’s plenty enough threads about this

civil>arch

If you’re civil, you don’t need architecture.

Architects come up with some crazy weird design for a building and the job of the civil/structural engineer is to find a way for it to actually stand without falling down. So who is more worthful?

Very true. But I was thinking someone could make a lot more with the capabilities of both.

While civil engineering is a very important part of the building process, it’s still just a part of it. Architects tie everything together; typically they hire the structural engineering and mechanical engineering firms to work under them as their consultants. Don’t forget about zoning, building codes, fire rating, accessibility, maximizing usable space, etc.

I most definitely would NOT double major in these two fields. If you feel you must learn about both, then I would suggest doing civil engineering in undergrad and then getting your masters in architecture.

I’m a 2nd year Civil student. I actually always wanted to learn architecture as well.
I found out it’s impossible. There are too many courses for both major to double major.
Architecture itself is a time consuming major.

Look into Architectural Engineering programs. My son is an Arch Engr major at Penn State.

I’m actually going to penn state next year.

I was an Arch E major. I learned that I could NEVER be an architect! I don’t have the artistic talent for it. It was good to learn what architects do, though, since I work with them a lot.

USC has civil witt building science?

You could major in civil engineering with a minor in architecture at some schools.

You might even be able to major in Architecture and minor in CivE, for that matter. See what your options are.

Yes, I believe Building Science is a track within civil engineering.

Yeah I don’t think I could do architecture anyway I have no artistic ability. I’m a math/science guy.
