how hard is it (specifically in comparison to mech E, EECS,..)? I've heard a lot about the difficulty of the other engineering majors, but have found little about civil engineering? I was wondering if any of you know any civil engineering-joint-business programs at Cal?

Someone needs to confirm this, but this is what I've heard from my friends in cal. Civil engineering's difficulty level is about equal to that of Mechanical Engineering's, both of which are considered easier than EECS and Chemical Engineering. I think it's disputable either EECS or Chm E. is harder because it really depends on the individual. Some people are better at memorizing things, but their logical thinking isn't as great. For them, Chemical Engineering would be easier. Other people have great logical reasoning, but find more difficulty in memorizing myraids of things. For them, EECS would be easier than Chm. Engineering. It's important to keep in mind that any engineering major would be difficult to study, and since Berkeley's engineering ranks among the best in the world, competition would be fiercer as well.

I've heard that civil E is easier thatn EECS, MechE, ChemE and BioE. I have no idea, though. More importantly, it's top quality.

Civil engineering at Berkeley is the best in the world, period. It's not everly competitive, but the standards set by the faculty are very high, since they are the world leaders in their subjects. It's challenging, but in a good way, and definitely not cutthroat. The grading gets easier in the last two years (about the same as the campus average GPA of 3.25) There is less focus on grading and more on learning. Sizewise, not too big or small a program. It's one of the best majors on campus.
