civil prep

That all sounds correct from my experiences as a civl prep parent. Astrdude points out exactly the difference in the students in civil prep and usmaps.

SATs --I know my student did not have to retake SATS as a civil prep

Also in the letter from the Assoc fo Graduates they say they have never had a studnet not be accepted because of a lack of nomination

USMAPS may require a retake of the SAT as they more focused on academic improvements-as I understand. Though this shoudl not be contrued to suggest usmaps students are lower academically skilled.... just as view by USMA they will do better if they go to USMAPS first

good luck to all

From our experience you are all correct about USMAPS. You are considered an invitational reservist. You do receive pay while you are there. You also receive all the same military benefits, including medical, dental, etc. A lot of the USMAPS CC's are prior service and recruited athletes or just needed an extra boost to help them academically. You are not fully committed to the Army if you leave, either voluntarily or if you are asked to leave. There is not obligation back the Army. It is just another route to get into USMA. An excellent route, too!! They do a fantastic job preparing the CC's for USMA.
