CLA Open house this Saturday...anyone going?

D & I will be there. PM me if you are going.

I would go, but its the same night as my prom and we visited over spring break anyway. Have fun when you go  Tell us all about it.

Right now I am praying that UMN is the “one.” She had a disappointing visit at one of her other top choices this week and is feeling like she doesn’t know what to do. It is making her so down and sad (and a little bit scared as she crosses each of her accepted schools off her list for vaious reasons).

Fingers crossed everyone - pray for a gorgeous sunny day(cold & snow are okay - but we need sunshine  ) and that UMN is looking in it’s best light Friday & Saturday !?!?!?!?!

It was getting to be pretty nice when we were there last week, I bet it will be lovely when you are there. :)

I fell in love with it when I visited and before I had been “set” on another school. I hope she finds what she is looking for. What are you guys planning on seeing while you are out there?

What is she wanting to see for sure?

Residence Halls, general campus, surrounding area (shopping/coffee shops, etc.), talk with some CLA students…the usual.
Our other mission is Prom dress shopping.

We leave tomorrow after school…

Based on your tag (believersmom) and your comment about praying for a good day, I was wondering if you and your daughter might be Christians. My son is currently trying to decide between UM and Madison but his first choice has always been UM (Carlson School of Management). We live only an hour and a half away but when we visited last fall, the campus was very nice and he really liked it.

When we were first looking into the school, we called an old friend who’s sons attended the U of M and were very involved in Campus Crusade for Christ. They’ve both graduated and we ended up calling one of them asking for information about housing choices. Long story short, he told us he really loved attending UM, in part because of the group of 350 or so people involved in CC for C. They provided a nice subgroup of like-minded students in the midst of the large university setting. If my son decides to attend the U of M, he’s looking forward to getting involved with them.

Hope you have a great visit.

Very cool. Piece of advice, if you want to take the buses you can take the 16 off campus to the light rail and take that to the main down town or to the mall of america to look for those prom dresses :)

Thanks all-

Yes we are Christians (Lutherans in particular - good since Minnesota is the land of Lutherans) but the moniker has to do with the old Monkeys’ song “She’s a Daydream believer…” because D is a believer in achieving her dreams (LOL).

We are going to MOA tonight and several other boutiques I know of in the TCs. Now if the weather will cooperate [sigh].

WIN-WIN-WIN-WIN

It took all of the 10 minutes walking from the parking structure to Jones Hall for the tour on Friday for D to start perking up (“I don’t remember seeing THIS part of campus before…hmmm, this is looking cool…”), by the time the slide show pre-tour ended she was linking arms with me and whispering “I think I’m ready to make a decision…” and when they rolled out the red carpet for the accepted students in CLA on Saturday morning(band members playing fight songs in the quad, Goldie dancing around greeting students & parents) she said “This is it!!! This is where I want to be.” She even liked the residence halls in the super block (still not crazy about Middlebrook but hopefully that won’t be an issue).

The weather was great (the assistant dean joked that “…it is always like this in the winter.”) AND she found a prom dress at a little boutique in the suburbs. I had to visit some customers on Friday afternoon and two of them offered her jobs next fall too when they found out she would be coming to MN. We also got lunch then coffee in Dinkytown and drove around looking at the frat & sorority houses. It all fits her. Don’t know why it took this long journey to see that, but thankfully she is happy.

So, she’s all confirmed, deposits are in, got info on roommate search today, H & I are VERY happy. Life is good today.

I’m so glad for your daughter, hope to see her in Minnesota! Perhaps she’ll want to join the University of Minnesota class of 2012 facebook now? (although for some ridiculous reason there are 4 of them, lol)

by the way, can you tell us what the dorms looked like? Middlebrook is my 1st choice by making friends and finding study time are more important than amenities and size… that’s why I’m wondering if I should change it.

In my never humble opinion, for freshmen, any of the dorms in the super block are going to be the best because that is where the majority of freshmen are living. Middlebrook is by itself.

D is setting up her facebook tonight and has been corresponding with potential roommates too. Fun stuff.
