Sorry, if there is already a thread going about CLA related scholarships. My kid recently got a mail about applying for CLA scholarships? Which I thought was interesting because I thought others about getting awarded some scholarship money without necessarily doing an extra application?
Has anyone been awarded CLA scholarships in state without applying for anything extra? Did everyone else get this e-mail today? Anyone have insight on the awarding of scholarships from the U of MN? Does this vary by college?
My daughter was given something out of the blue a few years ago but we could never trace it to any CLA-specific scholarship! LOL.
There are university-wide scholarships and college-specific scholarships. For CLA, you need to apply and it usually involves writing an essay. University-wide and most of the other college-specific scholarships are automatic consideration.
My son got the same e-mail. The rule in this house is that you should always apply because for a few minutes of inconvenience, the payoff can be quite nice.
Ok - so this doesn’t necessarily preclude university-wide scholarships? I think my kid has an essay already written which would be appropriate. I just had no idea he would have another hoop to jump through to be considered for scholarships. But he will definitely be doing it.
@MusakParent - so did you hear back just a few days after submitting the scholarship application? we just now submitted our application for CLA Scholarships - fingers crossed we get something. Can you give a range of how much you received?
Hi @ImASoccerPlayer ! So I don’t think the CLA app had anything to do with receiving this. My kid must have push go on that CLA scholarship application less than 48 hours earlier and the mail came directly from the office of admissions.
He received a $3000 annual Presidential scholarship and $4000 Charles and Myrtle Stroud scholarship both for 4 years. He is a possible dual degree CLA applicant applying to school of music and it would sure be a let down not to be invited to audition now! School of music requires video prescreen before you are invited to audition. In state, ACT 34, 4.0, PSEO student (not at the U). Will graduate with 32 credits. Crossing fingers on hearing from school of Music soon.
We just submitted the CLA Scholarship application a few days ago - we are out of state, just wondering do most people who apply get something? thank you!
