Claremont Consortium: Should I apply to all 5 claremont colleges ?

I’m currently a junior and scripps and pitzer college are my top two schools. Someone suggested that I apply to all 5 colleges but I was wondering if I should ? Advice ? Recommendations ?

hmmm… it’s not that i don’t recommend it, it’s just that i don’t see why you would. so, in my opinion, i think you should just stick to applying to scripps and pitzer unless you are certain you want to apply to pomona, claremont mckenna, and harvey mudd as well.

Is your intended major offered at all five of them?

yea my major is offered at all of them. My dream would be to attend scripps or pitzer/ be apart of the consortium. wasn’t sure if applying to all would increase my chances though

No. Don’t apply unless you could truly be happy at the school. They each have a different “vibe” and the definitely have different core requirements (for example Mudd requires you to take Physics, Bio, Chem, Engineering, CS and Math as part of the core…Scripps makes you take a lot of writing).

Have you visited? Each of the 5 has a distinct vibe and culture. I’m not sure how someone could feel the same about them all. Also, applying to all five won’t give your application any kind of a boost and it will be a waste of time and effort if you don’t really like them all (or if you’re not really a good fit).

thank you @ClaremontMom for your advice. I will be applying to Pitzer’s/Scripps’s fly-ins if they offer it to HS seniors. Do you know the kind of “vibe” Pitzer college gives ? Their requirements ? any other advice ? Thank you !

You may want to look at the core curriculum and other degree requirements at Harvey Mudd before applying there.

I would have assumed it was their vibe that attracted you. Pitzer’s vibe is social justice and the environment. I don’t know what their core requirements are (you could check their website). I do know that their campus is drought friendly (lots of gravel and cacti for example), solar panels etc. and kids hang their clothes to dry.

Scripps is a women’s college so the focus there is on women and as I said they do a lot of writing.

Definitely visit if you can, and I do know Scripps has a fly in. I don’t know about Pitzer, but again you could check their website.

(My D graduated from Scripps last year, my S is a junior at Mudd)

thank you so much @ClaremontMom I really appreciate it !
