Hello. I am applying ED 1 to Pitzer and am interested in majoring in Econ or Business (only offered at Claremont). I understand that you can cross major across the Claremont consortium as long as your intended major is not offered at your school.
Would it be practical mor me to major in business at Claremont?
Would it still be reasonable for me to graduate in 4 years?
Has anyone on here done this?
You probably should have asked this question before putting in an ED application. Econ is offered as a major at Pitzer, I think.
Econ is a major at Pitzer and I have asked several people and they all give a generic response that you can major in it tgeg just don’t mention the practicality
You can look at the course catalog to see what is offered. Check with career services at Pitzer and ask if they have statistics and specifics on where their Econ majors are going post-graduation. Look over the Putzer registrar’s handbook (or whatever they call it) carefully to see what the rules are for how many classes you have to take at Pitzer vs the other colleges. I wouldn’t put in your Pitzer app that you want to major in business at one of the other colleges, that is for sure.
Well I know a Claremont grad that said she took most classes at Pitzer so it must be practical/possible.
It depends on the classes. My kid can’t always get the classes she wants at the other 5C colleges. She isn’t trying to major off her own campus, though.
Why don’t you contact the school directly and ask? Offhand, I would think that the major must be available at the school you attend.
They do have some options to major at other schools, but honestly they don’t really want to let students in who just want to backdoor to another major at one of the other 5Cs. Calling and asking could tip them to that plan. I am not sure a student who really wants to attend CMC is going to fit in so well at Pitzer anyway, they are very different. There is a reason Pitzer doesn’t have a business major…
