Claremont McKenna and Wesleyan: and about the PPE program

Hello!
I am an accepted student to CMC, and I am trying to compare CMC to Wesleyan University in CT, which is/ or was my top choice college. I am waitlisted at Wesleyan, and am trying to figure out whether I want to stay on the waitlist; I do like CMC tons.

I posted a more detailed thread on the College Search & Selection forum:
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/700928-comparing-wesleyan-claremont-mckenna-maybe-pomona.html#post1062386004%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/700928-comparing-wesleyan-claremont-mckenna-maybe-pomona.html#post1062386004</a></p>

To me the two schools share some common strengths (interdisciplinary social sciences program like PPE, ample research opportunities, healthy social life...etc)

Can someone give me some inputs, esp. from someone who has some knowledge about both school? I would really appreciated any help. I would also love to know more about the PPE program: what are some criteria for selection into the major, and how "intense" is it. Comments on either thread is welcome.

Thanks! (I hope cross-posting is okay on CC..)

Hey dude, what do you lose by staying on all the waitlists?

I studied IR at Pomona and there were times when I felt like I would have fit in better at CMC’s IR dept. The IR majors at CMC seemed more interested in the geopolitics between nations, where as globalization and related topics ranked higher among my peers at Pomona. That said, I don’t think it was so big a difference that it affected my education. And academically as a whole, I definitely fit Pomona much more.

I had plenty of friends at CMC, and they definitely struck me as being more interested in getting a job right after college in fields like accounting, finance and government policy. CMC’s more specialized.

Both are absolutely top notch. Pomona’s IR education helped me get where I am now.

Can’t help you with Wesleyan as I only knew one person and he transferred to Pomona. He was a lot happier being in California and definitely felt more accepted there.

Why I think Pomona and CMC would be better than Wesleyan:

 1. California
 2. LA, quite possibly the most diverse place in America.
 3. a REAL consortium where you just walk across the street
 4. grad school powerhouses.

hang in there. best of luck.
