Claremont McKenna vs Colorado College vs Whitman vs Hamilton

I'm down to these schools. I want to go to a school that has strong social studies departments, a close knit student community, great facilities, great food, great dorms, and great job placement after college. Also, there needs to be a work hard play hard environment. Which of these is best for me...

Is geography important to you?
Accessibility to a city?

Nope… Those are not.

well, based on your preferences, Hamilton should be perfect for you! It has great social studies departments, the alumni network is among the strongest in the nation, student body is less than 2,000 giving the campus a strong sense of community, top-notch and newly renovated facilities, awesome campus food (with sushi!), and definitely the work hard play harder ethic is prevalent on campus.

honestly, i’d probably easily choose CMC. it has an extremely strong, amazing reputation in social studies. it also has a great community and the consortium, so your resources are limitless. hamilton is also great! ultimately, both of these in my mind (unfamiliar with the others) match with what you want, so you should probably visit and get to see for yourself how you “fit” in with the school. it’s up to you in the end! don’t forget to consider the different curriculums as well.

don’t forget the differences in weather - something which is very important in many potential students’ minds

Any of these schools would be wonderful. It really is a matter of your preferences. Claremont-McKenna and Hamilton have slighter more of a national reputation, but CC and Whitman are wonderful schools, too.

Do you like the block scheduling of CC? The outdoors?

The consortium of CMC?

The surroundings of the Pacific Northwest?

Or the traditional eastern LAC nature of Hamilton?

Choose the one that inspires you the most. I know most about Hamilton, so if you have any specific questions about it, you can PM me.

All good schools.
Of that foursome, I would probably put Whitman - as good as it is - last.
Colorado COllege is a unique school, both in terms of location and, more importantly, its “block” terms, which is just too weird for me. You need to consider whether you’d like it.
I would choose between Hamilton and Claremont McKenna. Both are great.

When I was applying I visited and applied to all fo these schols except Claremont. I thought the campuses of Hamilton and Whitman were both beautiful and could have seen myself enjoying the academics and facilities of both. In the end, Whitman was too remote for me being in Walla Walla. I chose CC BECAUSE of the block plan which I ahve really enjoyed. Further, I love the outdoors and the block plan allows for great opportunity to experience all that Colorado has to offer since we get a four day break every month. CC definitley had the poorest campus but can’t beat being at the base of Pikes Peak and enjoying all of Colorado as your campus.
