So far, Pomona has been #1 on my list, and i've been planning for awhile to apply ED. I went and visited the campus and it was beautiful, but i'm assuming that since McKenna is right next door the campus would be very similar.

But now i'm looking and I can't really distinguish McKenna from Pomona and i'm trying to decide which one to apply ED to.
I've been really into College Prow.ler, it's very user friendly and seems to ring true, and McKenna is graded higher in several areas.

Can someone tell me why I would choose one over the other? What the big and small differences are...? I want to major in Psychology (I know Pitzer is more focused on behavioral sciences, but that's my choice after Pomona and McKenna because of other factors) so i'm wondering if either of the two are more suitable for that?
Or maybe it just doesn't matter at all? Thank you!

If you want a career in banking and finance, or have been planning of taking up MBA and head to WS or London, McKenna is the way to go. Otherwise, Pomona.

You shouldn’t apply ED anywhere if you’re still comparing that school to others. ED should be reserved for those that are absolutely sure that no other school compares to it, and that they have no doubts that it is the school they will enroll in.
I’m not sure if you’ve visited, but CMC and Pomona have different vibes.
For a major like Psychology, I would think Pomona would be strongest.

The only reason to choose Claremont over Pomona would be if they offer more financial aid than Pomona, you’re really interested in a more “practical” education specifically in Econ/Govt/Poly Sci/Accounting/Finance, or if you just “fit” with the student body there.

If Pomona is the type of school you want, this thread should have been more like Pomona vs Pitzer, or Pomona vs Wesleyan or Pomona vs Vassar

My son got his degree in Psychology at CMC. It is a fine department. Just like in many areas - in general, but, of course with exceptions - CMC’s courses tend to be more practical dealing with concrete issues - Pomona tends to be more theoretical. Some of the best psych courses were actually at Scripps. My son’s internships were through Pitzer - one of which was working with the Public Defender in San Bernadino developing the defense for capital crime cases. (He was double majoring in Legal Studies.)

Visually the two campuses are very different. Pomona is much more of a classic graceful idea of a college campus - CMC is much more 80’s successful ‘corporate campus’ like. Loveliest campus is Scripps!

One way to differentiate between the 5C’s is to go through the campus portal which will show courses from all the colleges https://portal.claremontmckenna.edu/ics/Public_Course_Schedule/ and then go to the course catalog for the college offering it and read the descriptions for the courses which will actually be offered next semester. Will take some work going back and forth but you’ll learn alot about the schools. And once you see which courses interest you - you’ll see there is a difference in personality between them all, and you should get a feel for where you would fit best.
