It’d really help if you told us your EC distribution, leadership positions, and such. Thanks!

ECs are:

Varsity Girls Lacrosse each year, 2nd Team All Conference
National Honor Society
Link Crew Leader (3,4)
Academic All American for Lacrosse
Field Hockey each year (Captain - Sophmore)
Key Club Member - community service
Team 180 Lacrosse - Club Lacrosse practices/plays year round except high school season and primarily competes on East Coast
Referee - recreation youth lacrosse
Volunteer - Meals of Wheel

I’d say your chances are pretty good especially if Claremont is into your lacrosse. I think your GPA is a bit low for their standards so I would highly suggest retaking the ACT and trying for a higher score. Also look into the SAT II for a couple tests. Try to strengthen your volunteer work into one or two committed organizations or something. Plus it doesnt help being female and applying to liberal arts colleges haha. Right now:

CMC: low stretch/stretch

CMC: Reach

Thanks! Are there other LACs that I should look at?

I’d say it’s a reach (due to the GPA), but then again I’m just another high school senior, so take my opinions with a grain of salt. The only people who really do know your chances are the admissions officers at CMC. With that said, definitely apply to CMC, as it is a wonderful LAC.

In terms of other LAC’s, are you looking for any LAC in a particular geographic area or with a specific reputation?

CMC would be a reach because of your GPA and ACT. I’d suggest retaking the ACT and doing a few more ECs, clubs, and volunteering if you can.

I would say high match.

Mt. Holyoke, Bryn Mawr, Grinnell…

Thank you very much for the candid feedback. In terms of the GPA, does it help to have shown an improvement each year (9th: 3.61; 10th: 3.72, 11th: 3.93, and 12th estimate: 4.1)? By the time I graduate, I will have taken 4 honors and 4 AP classes (2 semester per class).

the act score is a little bit low, did you take sat? was it better?

No, I have only taken the ACT so far…
Any other suggestions to improve my odds for CMC?
What other colleges to CMC applicants typically apply to?
Is it harder to be accepted at CMC vs all Ivy schools?

No, CMC isn’t as hard to get into as the Ivy League schools but it comes relatively close. It’s acceptance rate is around 12.4% while the “easiest” Ivy to get into (Cornell) is 16%. The next closest would be Penn at 12.3% and then Dartmouth at 9.8%. All in all, any of these schools are difficult to get into. I’m not sure HOW much you can improve with such a short time. The main advice I have is to retake the ACT in September and try to improve a few more points. Volunteer service is always a plus if you can commit a large chunk of time to it. It’s a little late for internships, but do you know what area you want to study in at college?

Some other schools CMC applicants apply to:

Williams
Amherst
Colgate
Pomona
Middlebury
Swarthmore
Harvey Mudd
Scripps
Carleton

(Note that all of these are liberal arts colleges, but if you’d like a list of universities I’d be more than happy to suggest some too.)

Please suggest universities.

Thank you Slamdunkz24! While I greatly reading and writing, I am still trying to figure a major. I am leaning towards English or Biology.

Thanks All
