Clarification about honors/AP for UC?

I’m aware of how UC schools say the maximum amount of APs/Honors classes that they allow to increase your weighted GPA is 8 semesters, or 4 years, between grades 10-11. Can someone clarify what exactly this means? Obviously it’s smart to take more than 4 advanced courses between those 2 years, so how does taking 5+ advanced courses between the 2 years benefit me for applications?

UC’s will consider your course rigor so even though your UC GPA is capped with the 8 semesters of honors points, you want to have a rigorous HS course load in comparison to your fellow students. If 10 AP/Honors course is considered rigorous at your HS, then you want to have a similar class profile.
UCLA and UCB do consider the uncapped weighted UC GPA, so having more than 8 semesters of these classes will definitely help your chances.
