Clarification needed please!

I have received e-mails for the following programs, but don’t have a clear understanding of what each one is about. Which are the benefits of each one? Which ones should I apply to?

STEP

EOP

Integrated Studies Honors Program

Biology Undergraduate Scholars Program

Thank you for any and all advice, especially if you are currently part of these programs :)

I don’t know much about these programs, but I was just talking to friend about ISHP today. You get priority registration, which is REALLY nice for ensuring you get the classes you need. You also get to live in Miller Hall. Which is a nice and relatively new building. The only thing is you have to take these extra seminars on the side, so there may be a bit of extra work.

^Haha yeah that’s what I was wondering about. How much is added to your workload by participating in it? O_O

The dorms and registration do sound nice! :D

From what I’ve heard, your workload shouldn’t increase by that much. If you are worried about the workload, then you should take 13-15 units your first quarter to see if the added honors workload makes a difference or not.

Trust me when I say this, priority registration is like a GODSEND for freshmen. You will be able to get all of your classes with the upperclassmen and relax later on while your friends complain and become stressed out. xD Miller hall is also nice because it is one of the three newer buildings of segundo and you’ll be in an environment with other honors people so you can do better academically.

Do Honors actually give you a boost when applying to graduate school, or is it for personal fulfillment?

The thing is I already have priority registration, so I am basically looking at what the ISH classes/seminars will be like. Miller Hall sounds like a plus  If IS is an Honors program, does that mean one can only opt to do Integrated Studies or Davis Honors Challenge?

My D is in the Davis Honors Challenge. With state budget cuts the actual additional class time requirements is less so she is okay with that…but the BIGGEST perk of priority registration is AWESOME! Her roommates hate her during class registration time because she gets every class she wants! If you are a pretty smart kid who can handle time management she would reccommend doing/applying for this program. The registration perk is too big to pass up!

Is priority registration the biggest perk for the Honors programs? [meaning if I already have it…will I benefit from its other aspects?]

I think the ISHP is something you are “invited” to be part of—based on grades etc. Anyone can apply to the DHC —I believe they are looking for smart (but I don’t think you even send in grades) motivated/creative students? It seemed like a great option for my D because she was not invited to the ISHP party. You do get to hang with like minded motivated students----and have various opportunities to meet the faculty/work in small groups etc. with really interesting classes to take. A refreshing balance to the basic lower division stuff.

Go for an honors program if you can—college is time to step up and try new things–go for it! A little notation of participation in an honors program on your diploma can do nothing but help you in the long run.
Hanging with the motivated crowd will likely balance your multiple opportunities that will include " students less interested in academics"! There are a few of those on every campus!

Do they ever send out a email or letter that says “You are an EOP Student?” I mean an official email or how do you know if you are an EOP student?

^MyAdmissions will tell you if you are eligible for EOP, and I think there might have been an e-mail about it :)

So for an honors program, you just take some extra classes and seminars? Thats the only difference? Are these courses supposed to be harder?

I know nothing about this. So sorry if I sound stupid. =/

Where are myadmission does it say it? Sorry but I’ve been clicking basically all the links and I’m not even sure what I am looking for…
